This is a depressing thread.
***** Especially once it sunk in HOW MANY PEOPLE enabled this. Americans should've condemned this guy and his cronies after the Jan. 6th insurrection. How he was able to run again will always be a huge injustice in U.S. history... in my opinion.

Trump’s greatest triumph among the voters was in presenting himself like a Chinese menu. Take one from column A, two from column B. So, if his followers don’t agree with everything he espouses, they will be able to select parts, and vote for them.

That's a cogent analysis. It allows his voters to absolve themselves of the things they don't want to get blamed for him doing.

I realized this was what Trump had done the first time I saw footage of one of his rallies with NUNS in the audience. Brides of Christ supporting a lying, misogynistic, adulterous scumbag.Oh--because he's PRO-LIFE!!

I know several non MAGA republicans who are essentially single issue voters. The main single issues were "pro life" and "lower taxes". They're willing to put up with pretty much anything else as long as they get one or both of those issues covered.

They want abortion wiped off the face of the earth. Making something illegal does not make it go away, much in the way abolishing same-sex marriage will not get rid of GLBT people.
And man, Trump is King Lear come to life. yes, I know much, much worse as Lear was flawed whereas Trump is evil incarnate. But when I read things like Bondi was fired for not being sycophantic enough...

I watched a documentary last night on Paramount+ (made in 2022) about the events & history of Watergate...
Made me sad to think how positively quaint it all seemed by today's standards... and how the American public of 50+ years ago would not believe their eyes & ears over the events of these last 10+ years.
