Trump's next gambit:  he's gonna get covid and try to win the sympathy vote.

Biggest irony is all of history if he ends up dying from Covid.

Not that I'd be upset by it...

It would not be ironic if he died of covid.  Quite the opposite in fact, given his age, health habits, and how he flouts safety precautions.  In dramatic terms, it would be poetic justice.

Anyways - because unlike Trump's supporters, I am NOT a sycophantic, cultist, zombie supporter of Biden.

I'll quote Marc again to answer to you, Tim.

Basically, that's my opinion as well.

You're (understandably) too involved and take any criticism of Biden as an attack and a possible defense of Trump and then you go off on how awful Trump is.

The thing is, EVERYBODY KNOWS THAT. And I think Democrats and people in general should start moving past that in order to construct a viable winning strategy to take him out. Pointing out how terrible Trump is didn't work last time and I fear it won't work now even with the godawful presidency he's had.

A particularly annoying side effect of this is seeing Biden supporters justify everything he does just as the Tump sycophants do. If Biden says "Shut up, clown" he's a hero, but if Trump said it oh the horror.

And I just think it's a losing strategy. Trump's better at bullying and his base is better at cheering him on for it. The Dems are operating under his frame, instead of building a new frame that can beat him.

(For further reading on this "framing" thing in American politics I highly recommend George Lakoff's "Don't Think of an Elephant!").

What should that frame be and is Biden the candidate to pull it off? I could theorize some stuff but ultimately I don't know and if I did, I wouldn't be commenting on this forum, heh.

And I get my American news mostly from the NYT, the Washington Post and stuff like Axios. I've never (knowingly) visited an American right wing site in my life and haven't got the faintest idea (although I can imagine) what their talking points are unless Trump retweets them.

Just an outside interested observer of the US, a country I love for its huge cultural influence on me and a market I know very well for professional reasons.

I "get" the intensity you guys are sure to be feeling as this is truly a pivotal moment but ultimately I have no stake in this (well, the entire world is sure to be affected by your elections but still). I enjoy the exchange with you guys in the forum and learning your views from the inside. So thanks a lot for that, and hope you don't see my meddling (not the Russian kind!) as disrespect.

Trump's next gambit:  he's gonna get covid and try to win the sympathy vote.

Down here, Brazil president Bolsonaro (big Trump fan) got diagnosed positive multiple times and ultimately beat it and bragged about it big time.

He called it "just a little flu" and said people are overreacting. Goes without saying that Brazil's infection numbers and death toll are off the charts and their government is doing mostly nothing about it.

Hmmmm, it almost killed Boris & he seemed to take it very seriously
after getting it.

Trump boasts of being the fittest President there has ever been, with
his health/fitness being off the charts.

Let’s see shall we.

The strange thing for me, is that I feel no sympathy for him @ all,
whereas I did for Johnson - who, politically, I despise as much as
Trump.

It's hard to feel sympathy for someone who has an abundance of safety resources available and isn't forced by necessity to take any risks, yet who still does take substantial risks due primarily to vanity.  And it's especially hard to feel sympathy for someone who actively encourages others to take the same risks, and who has made decisions affecting public safety based solely on the calculus of how it might benefit him.

As I said earlier, poetic justice.

I mentioned this in another thread started about Trump and Melania testing positive:

Many of the comments I have read on news videos on YouTube (NBC, FOX, etc.) that reported the breaking news were from people who suspect Trump is actually lying about having the virus. These comments suggest he would do this so that he could say in a number of days that he beat it, and the virus is nothing to worry about.

Sad thing is... it's plausible he would do such a thing.

Yes, that is the truly sad thing - he has destroyed his
credibility so much, that we could/would think that this
is a calculated strategy to
a) gain sympathy
b) lie to his base that COVID is as benign as he says it
is
c) Prove he is the fittest one there is

Chances are though that he wouldn't be able to resist
a) tweeting nonsense
b) boasting that he fooled people

Remember,  he said that he had taken hydroxychloroquine during the spring.

So we can guess that it didn't work.
