You're right, James. The masses have been brainwashed and the violence and tension is palatable. When the president advocates the use of violence against citizens, goes against the better wishes of the state to speak, yet fails to mention the victim and instead takes the opposite side, there is no valid reason to support this president unless you are too far gone, full of hate or just getting a great tax break. Hey, if that's your thing, more power to you. It's nauseating and the pandemic is only a small part of that in 2020.

I understand that this is a "not happy with Trump" thread. But get a grip folks. A president, no matter how rotten and corrupt, cannot turn all of society upside down on his own. He has gotten help from extremists of both the Left and Right, as well as COVID.

We cannot place such an exaggerated importance on the presidency. We are not North Korea.

Joe, I agree with the sentiment of reactivity breeding reactivity, but will
counter you point about the effect that this guy is having on the nation.
You’re correct, traditionally the office is limited in the damage it can do.
The biggest issues that are coming out of the current administration,
isn’t the policies that it is enacting, but the venom, vitriol and
divisiveness that the man is pushing...... nearly non-stop.

Calling any modern US President “the most powerful man on the planet” isn’t and exaggeration, Joe. A great deal of action or inaction can start or stop at the behest of the US President. Does your assertion that the President cannot do it alone extend as well when trying to blame previous administrations for what you think they did wrong? Trump could have stopped separating children from parents, altering maps, golfing, elevating Putin over US Intelligence Agencies, etc., etc.,etc. as easily as he started those activities, but he hasn’t. Therefore, he gets the blame.

We live in a world where the cult of celebrity is real. Where ‘influencers’
are paid millions to endorse things.
You have a President who has normalised racist, fascist, sexist thinking
& actions, through both word & deed. Who has placed people in key
positions who will support his false narrative.
Who has been behind the normalisation of new phrases such as fake
news, alternative facts etc.

If you really think this has not had an effect you are more naive that a
two year old toddler.

So "good people on both sides" logic.  Got it.  Thanks for the simplistic and not so helpful post, Joe.  Aces.

I suspect that a president can indeed turn all of society upside down with implicit assistance by Congress. No, one man cannot effect changes of rotten and corrupt nature upon the country; but one man leads a country. Those who follow CAN bring about changes of a personally enriching nature; when the train leaves town, everyone rides. At least, everyone to whom the conductor has given a ticket.

It seems that Trump has so endeavored to ignore the affairs of the nation to enhance his own reputation, status, and bankbook that he has completely ignored the needs of the nation, and violated the oath he sword to support and uphold the Constitution. It appears that at every possible opportunity, Trump has gone with satisfying his desires, self-entitlement, and enrichment to the detriment of the country.

The leader is the one who sets the table, and then others come to dine. Trump seems to set things up for him, not for us. And there are indeed those who have come to slop at that table - again, harming the country.

But trying to write off his blame on any others seems pretty disingenuous; HE has taken the steps, because he IS the leader.

I don't particularly see any Left extremists benefiting from actions, even while not denying that "radicals" exist on the left.

Incidentally; blaming corona for Trump's failures is like blaming firemen for a burning house. I do not hold him personally responsible for the disease; I DO hold him responsible for our lack of response. A responsible president - Obama, for example, who DID have a plan for this - would have leapt into action, making the nation's focus on SHUTTING IT DOWN - not wishing it away and making light of it.

The President of the USA is telling people to commit voter fraud.
To actually commit voter fraud.

& he’s not being ironic, joking or even just implying people should do it.
He’s actually asking them to do it

"Amen!" said Saddam Hussein, Kim Il Sung, Idi Amin, Mao, Hitler, Stalin, Pol Pot, Castro, and a long list of authoritarian leaders whose singular influence in their respective nations contradicts your idiotic point.

*********

It doesn’t “seem” or “appear” so at all. It’s been totally blatant and
intentional the whole time. He’s acted EXACTLY as we knew he would.
Working against the betterment of the country and enriching himself
while doing so. Breaking the law at every turn while claiming he’s being
cheated. Cronyism multiplied to the nth degree. For fuck’s sake, he has
the Attorney General saying he doesn’t know if it’s illegal or not to vote
twice. And he’s actually applauded for it. All while fomenting racism and
division within the very citizens he’s supposed to be the caretaker for.
To bastardize a famous quote, he asks not what he can do for our
country, he cheats his country into doing for him. He’s an evil,
egomaniacal man that has the intelligence level of a fourth-grader. The
world will be a much richer place when he’s worm food.
