If Smollett has indeed staged his own attack it's the kind of stupid stuntism that further fuels and empowers the flip-side of the extremist coin they rightly dislike so much... same as with the restaurant harassers. And it seems to just take one example to cast everything else about the left or mainstream media into doubt for some. I conservatively tend to go with known long-standing quality brands over relatively recently begun websites, and generally if the New York Times or Washington Post publishes it it has been through the gauntlet of scrutiny and fact-checking as opposed to the New York Post and Washington Times, or Brietbart, Buzzfeed, or Mr. President's bizarre yet beloved Twitter rant feed. Can anyone say that this is the wrong way to approach getting reliable information? For tv/radio I would rate CBC Canada, PBS/NPR US and BBC UK highest.
I do not hope that the coast guard white supremacist with a hit list of Democrat party and media figure turns out to be a hoax, nor have wished it to be real to start with, but it is very alarming even in an atmosphere of alarm bells ringing for over two years now! I am beyond worried about my neighbor and loved ones there and the world. Perhaps I will start helping collect plastic trash along the shoreline or something, anything, to do something positive and start tuning out a little even though I have always felt that just knowing what is going on as best as one can is doing something.

There are lots of people that seem to want change in the world, but perhaps feel powerless to make change occur. Their methods differ wildly; stage a hate crime or murder, but the feeling of political impotence seems to running rampant.

For the record, CNN has committed plenty of coverage to the changes in the Smollett story. They currently have a webpage headed 'LIVE UPDATES: Jussie Smollett Arrested' and live on air right now (aptly enough on a programme called CNN Right Now) they have a fixed block of text on the screen saying SOON: 'Empire' star in court.

Smollett won't be in the final 2 episodes of EMPIRE's current season.
Hope that's a sign he's being fired.

Matt I cant really argue that one because I didn’t follow it well, sounds
like you have been following it.
But typically they seem to grab on a story and the more maga hate it is
the better. So they will spend a lot of time on it. But when the facts start
coming out they hesitate to correct things right away, or report on it less
— drag their feet.
I don’t know if that is what happened this time. Is the time they spend
now revealing it was a hoax as much as the time they spent on it when
it was a maga hate crime?
Well, since I live in the Chicago area, the news media and police have gone full force in exposing this hoax and denouncing Smollett ever since they learned the truth. Far more coverage than when this whole thing started, at least in my opinion.

I was mainly wondering about the mainstream news. I saw a random
Facebook video meme this morning that made it out like they are still
on the side of Smollet, or at least giving him a lot of wiggle room that
what he did isn’t so bad.

Instead of wondering or viewing it secondhand, rather than sanitized
further, why not go to the source and make an informed decision and
statement?

Your logic is quite alien to me Thomas, and I had two years in a Christian school that showed the Pat Robertson hosted 700 Club in class! It's fine with me if you keep trying if you are sincere about it though. I take in some things from unknown sources, although with the grain of salt often, but you never known. Even a broken clock is right twice a day as they say. :^)

I thought corporal punishment in Canadian schools was abolished 40 years ago. The physical pain of watching that show would be inhuman.
