I do not agree with President Trump's use of his Emergence Declaration powers in this instance, but let's lay much of the blame where it belongs: on CONGRESS!
CONGRESS are the ones who wrote the law giving/ceding this power to the President. Even the founders were wise enough to NOT include such a power under Article II. The closest thing we have to this IN the U.S. Constitution is the power to Suspend Habeas Corpus under VERY specific conditions and even that was granted to CONGRESS, not to one person: the President.
This reminds me of of a scene in I, Claudius, when Claudius is "interviewing" Agrippinilla (Agrippina, the Younger), his own niece, to be his new wife - and she warns him that if he "gives her power... she WILL use it!" Of course, Claudius' plan here is precisely for the wicked Agrippinilla to use such power to hasten the decay of the Empire.
Our Congress may not have intended for Presidents to use this grant of power this way, but they should have studied the history of what happens when Parliaments don't jealously guard their powers nonetheless!

Mike Pence tried to 'bring greetings' from Trump to an audience of world leaders. The silence was deafening.
This is the problem with Trump. He has reduced the office of the American President to an embarrassment, met with silence. No wonder China loves Trump. It just bolsters their argument that Government should be controlled by people with experience and have been raised to be leaders.

Vis a vis congress and emergency powers, when congress passed the law, they included a check. Both houses of congress can vote with a simple majority to nullify an emergency declaration. The problem is, this was challenged in the courts, which courts gave the President the right to veto congress’s nullification.
So really, on this as so many issues, the problem is that we have a court that legislates and which has no check on its power.

What purpose does posting this YouTube video serve? It's one guy's opinion and not incontrovertible fact. Not a minute in when he says "Democrats don't care about lawlessness" I knew what I was in for: yet another bullshit claim that Dems don't care about crime and would rather protect the criminal rather than the victim.
FANTASTIC!
But what does it add to the conversation that you haven't already espoused a number of times across pages of discussion?
Nothing. Zero. Nada.
Thanks but no thanks.

Steve,
Understood. But were I Congress, I never would have knocked down that first domino to begin with - I stand by my comment that Congress was not "jealously" guarding its powers and prerogatives by passing such legislation in the first place.

Ann Coulter actually said that the only national emergency we have is that our President is an idiot.
Couldn't believe I'd ever actually agree with her, but it has finally happened!

Anti Trump James Clapper says in will be "anti-cimactic"
Brace for MSM excuses and Butt-hurt on a monumental scale. They embraced it full force from day one, Russia this, Russia that.
Internal bipartisan committee who had the same info declared no evidence of collusion a week or two ago.

Did you know they were getting so popular that You Tube had to change the algorithms and make main stream media videos appear at top first no matter how low their views were?
They get all the help they can from the big tech companies to stay viable, and yet most don't like them, don't trust them. They embrace complete hoaxes of stories like the catholic MAGA HAT kid, and the latest one the actor Jussie Smollett staged hate crime attack on himself. They have full blown exposed themselves as political activists instead of news casters. And yet some still think they are the only people you should be listening to.
