Why would they? A lame joke tweet from some random nobody is barely worth the time it's taking me to write this sentence; it's hardly worth actual news coverage.

And apparently, he’s already caved. No SotU Address until shutdown is over.

Pelosi will call his bluff even more over the next 2 years (if he lasts that long with the spectre of Mueller there).

I'm having trouble finding words that properly explain the pressure that burst forth in laughter after reading this. I think "atomic" comes closest.

Roger Stone was arrested by the FBI earlier today. Interesting. He's been indicted for lying and witness tampering.

"I saw a new interview, and also old interviews by the police detectives, with one of those Central Park 5 kids. You could see how the use of false evidence presented to suspects by the police and other methods produces false confessions to crimes a lot more often than not. These 'techniques' have been banned in many places but perhaps in the rush to have no regulations ala neo-Libertariasm on the extreme right includes letting the police use every method known to get a false statement from suspects"
Rebecca -- there's a tremendous part of the CP 5 you'res imply ignoring; such as the other crimes they committed that very night night. And, for the record, it; was and is about getting the bad guys in all cases.

This from a New York times article...
"Prosecutors have long argued that the teenagers committed other assaults in the park that night, even if they did not take part in the rape. But Mr. Morgenthau’s aides, who asked a judge to throw out the convictions, said there was not enough untainted evidence to prove their culpability in the other crimes either.
So John....Do you have concrete evidence that proves they committed other crimes that night?
Just curious.

And the shut down is over (for 3 weeks at least). 45 gives into the pressure and relents. I definitely prefer a cave to a wall.

David;
from memory and off the top of my head? there were several robberies of groups of individuals "very closely" matching the description of them. And close to thirty years later later meant Morgenthau wouldn't be able to try and convict anyone, irrespective of the long past statute of limitations.

Oh yes... "bad guys", or, oh well, they looked just like "bad guys" anyway... "even if they did not take part in the rape". It actually does a lot more harm than good when you have police telling a suspect that others they know have confessed when they haven't, that their fingerprints were found at the scene when they haven't been, and that they have recordings they also don't have. They've found in tests that perfectly innocent people after being held for hours with no food (another acceptable tactic in some places) and being told lies like these have confessed to things, either believing the police so much even over their own sanity, or in order to get hinted at rewards of food and returning home... in real world practice they may get some food but they don't go home. They also use a method of sympathizing with the suspect, saying things like I might've done the same in your position, or how they think it might be understandable. All these things are documented as producing a lot of false confessions and convictions as they initially got from at least one of the 'Central Park 5' teens.. It's right up there with those stupid daycare cult stories with human sacrifice they got kids to tell and working on someone with hypno regression-suggestion until they concoct and believe in some trauma they had so totally suppressed but which never happened and ruin all kind of lives.
Really, everyone should want these very best and most scientific police investigations possible, not merely filling a cell and quickly closing a case with rewards for that. We have to get the right people. look at all the rape test kit samples destroyed and thrown away and later they found the person they originally collared for them or even got to confess was proven not the rapist. This is one area there can be no slack or 'close enoughs'. We know certain techniques are wrong and don't work, like the waterboarding and various forms of torture. We also have to be rid of racist and sexist police, especially when they are well known. That kind of person should be the opposite of what you want.
Instead of people being outraged over stupid junk about Elizabeth Warren's family having a story about some native relation, they should get really bent out of shape about the quality of policing in some places.

Rebecca -- I think your personal biases are showing. There's an awful lot more into any case than you would think.

Dumb Donny's buddy, Roger Stone, gets locked up on the heels of Giuliani making a fool of himself (again) all week and then Dumb Donny caves magically on his stance on the shutdown a few hours later. Reopening the government is just a Hail Mary attempt at a distraction from the rough week poor Donny had.
His speech announcing the pause on the shutdown was one of his nuttier rambles. He stated that none of the federal employees complained about the shutdown and that they were true patriots. Dumb Donny then went on a sales pitch for his wall that was peppered with lies.
Sander's attempt to distance Trump from Stone on CNN consisted of "What about Hilary's email..." and gaslighting everything related to the Russian investigation. She's a clown show all by herself.
And what will happen at the end of the 3 week pause on the shutdown? Will Dumb Donny pull the emergency card on building the Wall?
