MST3K is currently doing a stage show in selected cities to celebrate their 30th Anniversary. One of the two films they're riffing on* is a Canadian horror film from 1988 called, "The Brain." In it, a gigantic alien brain is taking over the minds of a small town via the television show, "Independent Thinking," in which viewers are told what to think and then relentlessly over-praised for seeing things so clearly and having the courage to come to these conclusions on their own as "independent thinkers."

Nothing was said about any parallels to current events in the stage show, but I find the set-up amusing enough on its own. Seriously, it's the same worn-out bag of tricks these cutting-edge, patriotic "independent thinkers" fall for every time.

* The other is "Deathstalker," which I would like to have seen as well.

Interesting postscript to the theatre incident:

Late Thursday, the Baltimore police identified the man as Anthony M. Derlunas II, 58. According to the police report, Mr. Derlunas said he had been “drinking heavily throughout the night.” He told officers he yelled the slogans because the final scene before intermission reminded him of his hatred for President Trump. According to the officer, Mr. Derlunas went on to say that the anger directed at him after his disruption was an indication of a high number of Mr. Trump’s supporters in the theater. Mr. Derlunas could not be reached for comment.

I haven't seen back pedaling like that in a long time. I doubt anyone angry with this guy was pissed off because they felt Trump had been maligned. His response seems to fit the "say the opposite when confronted" playbook in order to add confusion. Can anyone name an instance or even an appropriate situation when yelling, "Heil Hitler, Heil Trump" in public could convey someone's hatred of the man?

***edited "main" to "man"

All he got was a slap on the wrist. Imagine if he was a person of color....*

*Yes, I know that is an opinion article, but it rings of too much truth......

I could visualize a large group of anti-Trump protesters showing up at one of his rallies dressed in brownshirts and throwing out Nazi salutes while chanting this. With the crowds he gathers though, it might just catch on.

Whatever the motivations of this jerk in Baltimore was, what he did do was scare people who were afraid his yelling was a prelude to firing a weapon and a near stampede toward exits ensued that could've been much more serious. Should be charged, makes me ill that there are officials in Maryland saying he was exercising free speech, that has always been said to end at yelling 'fire' in a crowded theater!

Perhaps the Trump derangement syndrome is real if it means this fool isn't held responsible for causing a panic in a public space with his actions.

Heard Trump’s interview with Chris Wallace on Fox News touched on a wide range of topics.... but showed his failure to honor veterans, denial of losing the House - yet scores himself an A+??

This breaks it down clearly:

I'm outraged by the news today... once again Trumpo has pardoned two turkeys! He should have had to recuse himself from performing that function!

Tweet from idiot boy says something along the lines of 'One of coldest Thanksgivings in history. What happened to Global Warming?'

The lack of knowledge, understanding or intelligence on display in that tweet is staggering. To not understand the difference between weather and climate, to not understand that global warming has been accepted as too simplistic a term and is now referred to as Climate Change - which results in extremes becoming more prominent, and use that lack of understanding to push his stupid (lack of) environmental agenda is staggering.

I bet he doesn't believe in vaccination either.

Staggering.

That deposit I made on the throne this morning has more intelligence and understanding than our current president.

Saw this on The Washington Post website. I found it funny.....

♫♪ Cell phones ring, hear them pealing.
In the courts, perps are squealing.
The FBI calls, another one falls,
Walking in a Mueller wonderland.

We await the excitement
Of a Christmas indictment
For each of the Trumps and all of their chumps,
Walking in a Mueller wonderland. ♫♪

Real PRESIDENTIAL to threaten thousands of Federal Employees jobs before Christmas.... Trump's 'big present' to government workers and the military. (Let's not forget what his antics have done for the stock market he's been so proud of this holiday season!)
