Having just re-watched IT'S A WONDERFUL LIFE at home recently, I sadly realized:
Minus the wheelchair, America has finally elected Mr. Potter as President.

Kevin, I'm not being facetious:
I worry very much about that myself, and think the planet will be lucky to avoid World War III by the end of the decade, let alone 2017.
And to be fair, not just because of Trump. I think Earth as a whole is starting to lose its mind, in a big, big way.

Yep, it's official, Trump will be our President! Let the twitter wars begin...with the media, the Democrats & other world leaders, in other words, this unhinged man will be our downfall. :(
I knew the electoral college voters would not grow a pair & respect the integrity of the office of President, instead they wimped out & now look what we are stuck with for the next 4 years!!

I suppose we have now exited the 'false hope' period of the election season. From November 8th on, there has been only one outcome: Trump as President. The online petitions, the focus on the popular vote, the recounts, hoping for the Electoral College to produce a different result -- none of it was going to change the results.
I think anyone expecting Trump to be impeached is also going to be disappointed, at least until/if Democrats make some big gains in the mid-terms. The likelihood of Republicans undermining their own party and pissing off half their electorate is slim. And I can't imagine what Trump could do that would make Republicans think he deserves to be impeached; they elected him despite numerous plausible charges of sexual harassment, open corruption, and his weird admiration for tyrants.

I don't like Trump but I don't think the Electoral College wimped out. The voting setup for the US Election had Trump as the winner. I feel it's getting into very murky water to block the person that won under the rules that were laid out in advance... I feel the Republican party wimped out by throwing their backing behind a candidate that many prominent Republicans clearly felt was unsuitable.
Maybe some thought should go into changing the voting setup to better reflect the way the country as a whole votes in the future. Having nearly 3 million more people vote for the losing candidate than the winning candidate seems all kinds of wrong, but the rules were the rules.

And Thom, I agree -- I don't see how you set about impeaching a man whose dirty laundry was clearly on display before the votes were cast.

... not without some very serious backlash from the "winning side" who voted for him.

Impeachment will not come. Trump is all the Republicans have left. If they do so, they might as well hang themselves immediately afterwards.

Trump thinks the U.S. should "expand its nuclear capability"? Something no president has called for in decades.
Things continue to get scarier and scarier.
