As the Democratic party moves closer to Bernie Sanders socialism and Maxine Waters social justice activism, Trump will be picking a Supreme Court justice to overturn Roe vs. Wade (to prevent innocent babies from being ripped from the womb and murdered hours before due dates supposedly) which Kennedy somewhat unique among conservatives there was against overturning, and also a replacement who will strengthen the rights of all sorts of religion-based or affiliated entities to keep tax-exempt status and qualify for taxpayer funded programs while discriminating based on their standards which are outside the law and 'faith based'. It will be interesting to see how Muslims wanting then equality for their religious based Shari'a laws fare if things get that far, especially when thinking about the supposed 'ground zero Mosque' hysteria of a few years ago. Not just one bakery but schools, lawyers, broadcasters and publishers, will no longer 'be forced' to admit or service non-whatever the religion is that they will say is their right to exercise against others. There are many bar accepted Christian conservative law school graduates out there while in Canada a proposed school of the sort was told it's graduates would not be accredited as they had a clause against everything but man-woman marriage with even sex forbidden before marriage.
Besides the travel ban targeting Muslims, rules against filibusters and gag orders are coming in right now, as well as changes to state laws undermining unions and their funding after the successes of Scott Walker in Wisconsin. The Democratic party relying on Union support where the Republicans tend to attract more international and domestic corporate and super-wealthy backers. There is less than ever to curb redistricting to suit the majority party in power whichever it may be, expect the electoral districts to get ever more bizarre in shape to maximize concentrations of the opposition in few areas and spread out the ruling party votes (so you get say one district with lots of long spindly corridors to connect to each stronghold where the Democrats get 88% of the vote, and then three where the Republicans get 54%, 58% and 60% say, this is how your popular vote count gets more disparate from the electoral college numbers).
They got away with blocking Obama from having one supreme court justice even considered as he was entitled to do in his last year as president as the Republicans controlled the house and senate, and now they are going to rush through Trump's second pick before the mid-terms. So all there is in sight is further imbalance while the 'free stuff' promising left gets lefter and the right gets whatever this thing they are mutating into is... quasi-religion based isolationist racism headed by one of the biggest victim claimers the world has ever seen.
I hate Trump and his administration. Have never said otherwise. I'm just against imitating his race to the bottom tactics. "They go low, we go high" in other words. But try the old 'ends justifies any means' and see where you get to. Again, I think it's sloppy to bring Nazis and Jews into these things so much... if you want to draw some parallels to 1920s Weimar Germany though, that could be applicable, especially if there's a possibility of currency devaluations on the way (and China now says something Trump once said while campaigning as a real policy; simply printing more currency).

*********** The midterms just got *much* more important. Still, I have to wonder.... WHY would Justice Anthony Kennedy decide to retire NOW?? His move gives the Republicans just enough time to fill his seat before the upcoming midterms. *sigh*
Dems should do everything possible to stall this out until after the fall election.
In fact, this could be the catalyst that fires up the Democratic base to get out the vote.

How can Democrats stall it out. The only way the Republicans got away with it was they controlled the House and senate. Could this possible demoralize Democrats and weaken voter turnout. It is possible Kennedy retired now because of the fear Dems would use the same underhanded tactics the Republicans did if they gain control.

You mean he should be afraid of the Senate using the rule Turtle Mitch set up? Weird. It's almost like that's a bad rule.

A little early to claim victory either way. But where's this from? The only news I could find on the subject was from April where the Wall Street Journal said revenues were down.

Given that the deficit is on track to match the discretionary budget, where do you propose cutting from enough to make up the difference?

Missing the most recent years, but spending during the Obama years was on the decline. My guess is spending has sharply increased in 2017 and 2018.

Treasury receipts have generally been higher in 2018 than 2017 in absolute dollars, as we might expect with a growing economy, though May 2018 was sharply down from May 2017, following a bumper April (May being the most recently-reported month).
As a percentage of GDP, these receipts are unimpressive. Of course, we will have to wait to get the full fiscal year results, but receipts in 2017 were 17.3% of US GDP, compared with 17.7% in 2016.

Check the CBO reports for all the current state of revenues. There you will see the record revenues, and percentage of growth. Generally, when dramatic tax cuts are implemented there's an immediate drop in revenues. Tax cuts are a longer term play designed to (ultimately) take in more revenues as the economy and GDP grows. A step back to take two steps forward. That's what happened in the 1920's/60's/80's. What's even more remarkable is the record revenues taken in under Trump's tax cuts almost immediately from implementation. Judging the tax cut plan based on revenues after well less than a year of implementation is short sighted. But any economic positives FAR outweigh the negatives no matter how much it may bother you.

Yes, and The Phantom Menace was a more popular film than Star Wars.

The tax cuts will give higher profits for corporations. That will also reward shareholders.
Maybe that boosts consumer and business spending. If it does, that will help GDP grow. But I'm not at all convinced that higher corporate profits correlates to higher consumer or business spending.
By the way, the best place to check treasury receipts is the Treasury Dept, not the CBO. The Treasury Dept reports hard data each month.
Quoting record revenues in dollar amounts is pointless because of various things that will naturally skew the numbers that way, including population growth and inflation. What you want is a 'real terms' measure that allows you to make an apples-for-apples comparison.
When we get to the end of fiscal year 2018, we will see how it compares to 2017. The most recent month reported (for May 2018 as I previously stated) was not a record, as it was lower than May 2017, by quite some margin.
