His opposition would LOVE for him restore the dignity because then they could freely direct the narrative without his interference. He is using Social media to get his word out.

How are we defining "effective?" While getting the job is certainly an accomplishment (only 44 people ever have), it's not like the job ends there.

I think his allies are far more eager for him to stop acting like a buffoon than his opponents.

For one thing, that ignores how much of "the onslaught" is caused by Twitter rants, mouthing off at rallies and telling provable falsehoods. For another, yes he gets a lot of negative press, but how much of it is underserved?

The thought of two people like Trump and Kim Jong Un having a sit down over nuclear weapons is a bit terrifying.... Trump is clinging to the notion that only he can make a deal. He will twist whatever happens to make it sound to his base like he's pulled off yet another victory.

Given his volatility and knack for saying the wrong thing, for example he just said to Canadian PM Trudeau "didn't you guy's burn down the white house?", I'm really not sure how to see Trump as a good choice for something like this. Maybe in North Korea bizarro logic rules?

It's scary that Dennis Rodman seems like a much more stable and thoughtful moderating presence. I would have to agree he is though.

The outright lying is a real issue. I can understand putting a spin on things, or not keeping election promises. I could even tolerate making an election promise of which there was never any intention to go through with it (though that is highly sketchy behaviour), but as a sitting President, to be telling outright lies to try and alter voters behaviour is plain wrong.
To wit, today going in to the G7 meeting, Trump was asked about children being separated from their parents at immigration detention centres. "I hate it", he said, "but that's a Democrat bill that we're enforcing."
Now, is there a law that requires children to be separated from their parents in such a situation? This is a policy introduced by Trump's administration.

And now we have the G7 meeting ending in rancour.
Trump says Canada is charging massive tariffs to US farmers. When it comes to milk, this is true. And the US has no agreement with Canada to limit tariffs on milk.
Trump is charging tariffs on Canadian imports of Steel and Aluminium. This goes against that which is written into US law as part of the NAFTA agreement.
The way in which Trump is trying to circumvent this law is by saying this is a matter of National Security.
Which is to say, the 2 million tons of Canadian Aluminum that is imported each year to meet the US' needs of 6 million tons is a security threat.
I honestly say, every other country should play this claim out and refuse to import these threats to US security , and see how they fair.

Everything about that conference, from 45's body language to his increasingly-inane tweets, reminded me of a toddler. He even sits like a sulky toddler.
