I was reading online that even if enough electoral college voters change their votes away from Trump on Dec. 19th that it would not matter because then the final decision goes to Congress & the Republicans are the majority there...any guess what their decision would be?

We are stuck with Trump! :(

Jeff, not ALL Republicans are for Trump.  While odds are they'll back him, it's not a guarantee.

If the House got their way, there'd be a split between TEA partiers going all-in for Trump and the sane, principled Republicans going to the Democrats to bail them out.  And that's how we'd get President Mitt Romney.

Kevin Hagerman, I would sell my sister for cash, right now, to have President Romney instead of President Trump.

Keith Olbermann, past of ESPN and MSNBC, has a regular feature on GQ's site, and in his most recent, he discusses the possibilities of being "saved" by the Electoral College. I enjoy these quite a bit:

Fair warning - he feels VERY strongly about this, so some of his commentaries are pretty strongly worded. NSFW if language is an issue, sometimes.

Well, I wouldn't expect a "revolt" from the electors.  There might be a few, but no way will 38 not go for Trump.  In many cases, state law will prevent them from doing so.

"Best case scenario" is we get a President Paul Ryan.  And that's only IF there's insurmountable proof that Russia had a hand in the election and Trump's campaign not only knew, but actively encouraged it.  If that is the case, they'll be on trial for treason and unable to assume the office.  It then falls to the Speaker of the House.  However, the only way the occurs is once the electoral votes are official.  Which is Monday.

As much as I wish it weren't the case, this hope on the left of flipping enough electors doesn't even rise to the category of Hail Mary pass.  It's just depressing.

I don't know where other progressive moderates (such as myself) are on the issue, but I may actually be okay with an internal GOP coup removing Trump and installing Pence.  Beyond all of his racist, misogynist bullshit, Trump's actions in the days following the election - from his cabinet posts to his breaking of all protocol (which has already created an international incident), to the victory tour - have tainted the office to such a degree that having a creep like Pence in there would be a relief, because he'd at least BE there and take the fucking job seriously.

I know Pence would be pushing the same agenda as Trump, but we're now at the point where style counts, and a bloated, tactless, and gilded clod like Trump is the antithesis of the style the office calls for.

Could Trump BE more racist?

Here's an article explaining what's going to happen on Monday, as well as showing which states allow the electors to not vote for who won the state:

Dave, I find the prospect of a President Pence is far scarier than President Trump.  With Trump, there is at least the hope that his incompetence and personal shortcomings will in some ways undermine his ability to enact the regressive, unamerican agenda the Republicans are intent upon pursuing.

I won't say I don't find Pence scary - of course he is - but my feeling is that the kind of damage he would cause is of the more easily reversible kind than what Trump would do.  Trump looks like he could cause damage that would take generations to repair, and he could do it without breaking a sweat.

It's the political equivalent of looking at a nonsense research paper and saying "It's not even wrong."  Vice President-elect Pence at least knows how to be a bad president.
