When I was in college my "friends" took me out to eat in a restaurant where the "servers" are deliberately rude. It's half the reason people go there. I might have enjoyed myself if I had known, and my "friends" might not have enjoyed themselves if I had known. They chose to ensure that they would enjoy themselves. At my expense.

As mentioned a few posts ago, floral deliveries from secret admires is pretty creepy if you think about it,verging on stalker behaviour.

I think it was generous of JB not to suspend Eric's account, and give him the opportunity to explain and apologize.Oh, wait, except, Eric forgot part of it.

"2. The whole concept of a mystery parcel is unfortunately a poor choice for a business model in this day and age. At the very least, in the first parcel, the company should have included a letter to the effect of "a friend has sent these parcels to you as a gift, more are coming, you can cancel at any time."
Issues solved."
**
But not really though. Having shared the street/mailing address in the first place is something that can neither be taken back or "solved".

Editted to remove what I posted. I changed my mind about wanting to add what I was thinking to the conversation.

Piling on is very internet.
***
No-one is piling on. I'm not here to pursue a vendetta. I feel my comments, and others, have been diplomatic. Our host spoke on the topic, Joe shared his identity and we're just discussing it. No-one is getting any pleasure from it. No-one, I'm sure, has any ill will towards Joe. Mr Byrne has said he is angry and is right to be. I think it was the wrong thing to do, but I don't feel anger because I wasn't the recipient.
I've thought this sort of thing long before the internet existed. I've never had flowers from a secret admirer, but I've heard of female colleagues/friends/acquaintances having them. And almost every time, they felt uncomfortable with it. The business model does not work. I wish I could remember the names of the companies that I read about where you consent to receiving mystery packages. There's a business idea there, a good one. But one that involves secrecy isn't.

We`re now just discussing the ramifications of receiving unsolicited things from unknown sources,i bear no ill will towards Joe.Further to the flowers thing, just think if the recipient was married/in a relationship the trouble it could cause, not to mention the paranoia involved in not knowing which aquaintance sent it,either with malice or just plain thoughtlessness. If single,it would still be scary.

Looks like Joe has been superimposed over Eric.

I guess Eric is off the hook, but poor Joe is in for it now.
Sending people surprises is a gamble. A few months ago, I was discussing old movies with a friend; during the discussion, I decided to send her two of my favorite books on the subject via Amazon. They delivered, but she never said anything to me about receiving them. When I finally asked, she had no idea they came from me and she had spent the day fretting about receiving a shipment intended for someone else. Good intentions resulted in anxiety!

An ill-advised decision it seems. In this day and age, I would have very suspicious of the packages that were received.

We don't live in an era where receiving unsolicited packages is taken lightly. There's just too much in the news about how these things go wrong. I understand the impulse to try and buy a gift for someone that will be different and unusual--but this can too often go astray when the intentions are deliberately obscured.
I'm sorry that this happened. It is a breach of trust, intended or not. I hope that there is a way to rebuild this trust, but that is *entirely* for JB to decide.
