AMAZING SPIDER-MAN # 121.
I love the fact that this is presented as a triumphant, full-page splash, only for the story to then immediately take a sharp left turn.

BUT in something of a typical shot for Gil, Spider-Man's blow is arcing DOWN, while the Goblin is arcing UP!(And, yeah, I have made the same mistake.)

Considering how extensively John Romita reworked Kane's pencils for this issue, I'm a little surprised that he didn't fix that. Maybe he wanted to retain the Kane-ism?

No slight against the art, of course, but the power of the sound effect is one of the things that makes that one stick out, for me.

Perhaps I'm giving a favorite artist the benefit of doubt, but considering that the Green Goblin was hovering above Spider-man, is it possible that Spider-man's fist struck the Goblin's face on the upward portion of the swing, and only the follow through of the punch contributes to the downward arch?

The upward portion would've been behind him tho, wouldn't it? Look at the arch of the swing.

Goblin flies towards Spider-Man. Spider-Man swings fist in downward arc. Is it possible that the angle throws the incoming Goblin upward?
I say yes, depending on what angle the goblin comes in at and how the contact is made with Spider-Man's fist.
Surely it's as much an issue of the angle of the contact between Spider-Man and the Goblin as it is of the swing-plane of the fist?

Though thinking on it more, I think a downward hit would be far more likely...
