Exactly Matt.

Then [Ronald Reagan] very quickly went and doubled the deficit in four years.

You do realize that Congress, and only Congress, sets the budget and therefore the deficit.  That Ronald Reagan was able to get any of the things he wanted considering he had a Democratic House his entire term in was amazing.  This (a balanced budget) was one thing he didn't get.  (And before you ask, yes, he did submit a balance budget that was rejected by Congress.)

It's okay if you believe leftist things, but don't get things factually wrong in pursuit of your philosophy.

Mike, did you read the thread about politics and comics before you started this one?

Yep, I read it

I was not looking for a huge political fight...(sorry folks)...I had just want to hear what John Byrne leans were (and was had hope to hear on my stories synopsis and if he thought it was suicidal)

Reagan I believe put the kibosh on the Soviet
Union.  Obviously, he had help along the way.  But he predicted it, fought
for it, and lo and behold it happened.  He deserves credit, although other
Presidents do as well. (Well, except Jimmy Carter).

Record Surplus-most of that was actually an estimated surplus, the
economy was falling down at the end of Clinton's term,a dn was
artificially infalted by anm internet/tech boom that was doomed to fail
eventually.

Plus, you know, he wasn't fighjting any wars, though, in retrospect, he
obviously should have been doing something.

Why except Jimmy Carter?

What wars?

Why did Bush go to war against Irag?

It sure as hell wasn't "liberation" as he's claiming now.

1, JC-I was being facetious, since you made a comment before about JC and also since I think he pretty much did nothing and emboldend the Soviets. But mostly joking

2. What wars? I forget what I said let me check. Oh yeah.  Terrorism. 9/11. Misses opportunities.  Maybe not wars per se, but certainly more action. and he probably should have taken on Iraq much earlier. Hell, since he had such diplomatic skills, maybe he could have had a bigger coalition.

3. Liberation was actually one of three main reasons given ("We'll be greeted as liberators").  But actually, the vote to war gave something like 234 reasons to go to war with Iraq. Everything but the kitchen sink.

Just when I thought I was out, they drag me back in.

I find two things incredibly interesting and humorous: 1) Googling for the news story on the Playgirl firing, I can't find anything from a source that doesn't have a Right-Wing bias, and 2) conservative Republicans are holding up the the firing of a woman that worked for a porn rag as an insult to their party.

1.  You're right-I heard it vaguley on Fox last night and I couldn't find anything googling.  As I said, maybe she just sucked.  I then was really playing devils' advocate, but in principle, I mostly believe my main point.

2.  I'm a moderate Republican (except for abortion)  You want to work for a porn mag, work for a porn mag. what do I care.  But if I ever run for office, don't quote me.

Jacob,

Sorry man, I did not mean to slaughter your post the way I did, It was an
accident.  I just was trying to leave the parts I was commenting on... so
again Sorry.

But, regarding Reagan, I think it is interesting how things like the Fall of
the USSR just "happened" as a result to Reagan.  Like the Reagan era just
"happened" to be the period of the greatest peace time economic growth
in history.

By that logic, I would think that history will show that G.W. Bush's
presidency, just "happened" to be the period when democracys became
popular all around the world.

About the post quoting, forgiven.

About Reagan, what about the peace and economic growth during
Clinton?

And democracy has only been established in two counties by the States,
that's hardly "all around".

And I doubt Iraqis feel the free election makes up for the thousand dead
in Iraq on both sides.

Afghanistan attacked us first, and maybe Clinton should of brought them
down years ago, but what about "Bin Ladin determined to Attack inside
the United States," can't say Bush couldn't of done anything before hand
either.

About Iraq, no reason to go in, no reason to go in, no reason to go in.

And that wouldn't have anything to do with how that name would play in the media to the American public.

Could you imagine the egg on our collective American faces if they'd
called it "Operation Iraqi WMD Hunt?"

Reagan did not end the cold war! He was just in office when it happened, that's it.

Uh, no.  Actually George H.W. Bush was in office at the time.

And if Democrats so quickly give away money as the quote suggests, then how do you explain RECORD SURPLUS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And then to top that off a "conservative" RECORD DEFICIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Republican Congress for the first, recession plus global war on terror for the second (although in truth I was less than pleased with No Child Left Behind or the Medicare Prescription).
