My friend also mentioned the Brazilian community is quite strong and organized in Calgary, with places of congregation firmly established.
As I said with Chinooks, it is difficult to anticipate the driving conditions from day to day. I would consider up-grading to 4WD once the weather conditions are in a predictable range. Many Car rentals will offer free up-grades to SUVs, because there can be a surplus on the lots.

Thanks for the tip Bert, I just loved everything about Banff and I am even considering going straight to the city and stay there for two weeks. I will check the hotel you suggested, thanks a lot.

I wouldn't call Banff a city, it's small under 10,000 people.2 or 3 day in Banff will be plenty unless you want to go skiing every day. You can pretty much walk and shop the entire town in a day.
You can do tours - http://www.banfftours.com/packages/winter-deals-packa ges-and-specials
If you're up for the adventure and you like fine dining I suggest you try here - http://www.lebeaujolaisbanff.com/
My wife and I did this last year with the wine pairings...very good. - http://www.lebeaujolaisbanff.com/menus/6-course.htm

I just found that Black Sabbath will be playing in Calgary while I'm there. Anyone coming? I really want to go, but Ticketmaster only sells in pairs and I cannot leave my son alone... (and wife is not really a fan).

Concerts are not my thing, too many people!
I should warn you about how dry it can be here.

Steve, I live in Sao Paulo and it is dry and polluted in the winter (sometimes humidity level can get down to 12%). I also lived in Brasilia, almost as dry as a desert (humidity level below 10%). When I went to Toronto I felt uncomfortable with the hot and dry of almost every indoor building that I entered.
Sorry to hear about how you feel about the concerts, its Black Sabbath and it is the end, I cant miss this. I went to see them in 2013 when they came to Sao Paulo. It was awesome, more than 50.000 voices singing their songs and I was very close to the stage.

I am not sure when Marcio is arriving in Calgary, but are there any local forum members, who wish to get together with our Brazilian visiter?

I arrived in Calgary last Saturday, Jan 31st, and I am in love with the city. My family is here with me and my son saw (and played) with snow for the first time in his life. I will post some pictures later.

Take some exterior shots, Marcio! The city is much changed since I lived there. Quite cosmopolitan now. Fewer cowboy hats!!A few years after I moved there...
"Today"...
(No, the Rockies have not moved closer to downtown. The second picture was taken with a telephoto lens.)

We're having warm weather with temperatures in the teens (Celsius). I hope the weather doesn't make Marcio's Banff visit unpleasant. I am looking forward to meeting up with him nest week.

That picture with Marcio, myself, his family and my niece is at Another Dimension in Kensington, JB. Thats where I met you back in1994, although in the old location down the street.
