For my guess, I'm going with John Rozum, writer of Scooby
Doo.
My reasoning, aside from the fact that nearly everything else
has been guessed, is that it is the same first name (John), and
the last name, Rozum, has the same number of letters as
Byrne.
Also, the co-writer of Scooby Doo is Frank Storm. Frank has the
same number of letters as Roger, and Storm is close to Stern.
I also think there could be an anagram in the two names that I
haven't figured out yet. The closest thing I can think of is "Ro"
are the first letters of Rogers name, and "zum" could be
interpreted as the way that JB writes the last three letters in his
signature.
Lame I know, but that's what I'm going with, or else my head will
explode if i think about it anymore.

Mark, you might be on to something - I pointed out upthread that I googled everyone who's currently writing for DC, and all of them have either real people behind them, or they're Chuck Austen. Except the Scooby Doo / Looney Tunes guy.

I don't think it's John Rozum - Here's an interview with Rozum:

Frank Strom has his own website:

So we are back to the possibility that one of the writers with an established identity is actually fictitious.

I am wondering two things.
First, that we are not looking at the question literally enough:
John Byrne wrote:
Hey, I've been writing one DC book under a pen name for more than a year now. Still waiting for people to "notice". |

Does book have to be a comic? Are there other DC 'books' published that could fulfill the definition?
Second, I thought that it was interesting that JB denied being Andy
Lieberman but not AJ Lieberman. I am just a really suspicious
fellow.

Actually Todd, that's a damn good point, the "Andy" "AJ" thing.

The only other thing I can think of is Mad Magazine, which is
linked to at the top of the DC comics web site.
