Yes, kudos to you. I must admit I was one of those who thought she was the weakest link back when I started reading in the seventies. Of course that was how she was written also, but I kick myself for not seeing her potential like you did.

Sue was definitely the most underestimated member of the team by villains and fans alike. It must be quite a feather in your cap JB to recognize something that literally nobody else recognized. Sue's current place in comics is owed directly to your writing. And if memory serves the Sentinels also owe their threat potential to you. Are there any other characters out there that JB handled that had similar light shined on them?

*edited for spelling

Probably that one Canadian guy that fought the Hulk.  What was his name again...?

I'd give that one to Neal and Roy!

One of the most gratifying experiences of my time on FANTASTIC
FOUR was seeing the shift in fan perception, from Sue as the useless
member of the team, to her as perhaps the most powerful!
And what's significant, I think, is that I accomplished this without any
radical changes to the character. Didn't have to give her an extra dose
of cosmic rays (a la Phoenix), or put her thru some kind of mental
trauma (a la Guy Gardner). Just applied her established powers
logically.
++++++++

Throughout Lee and Kirby's run, there are certainly moments where
Sue's strength of both personality and powers shine through. So, this
really was a case of taking what was already hinted at and following
through.

I am happy that Sue's change in stature has endured. Not flashy, but really a power to be reckoned with.

Pretty much everything I did on FF was built on things Lee and Kirby had done (and very little that had come after). The approach was simple, How can I expand on this?

Unfortunately, today the common attitude is more like How can I tear this down?

This is the John Byrne commission I would want to own.
Perfect shot of the FF!
