does anyone know who the guy with the horns under Robin's hand is? ****************** Calendar Man. I believe he only wore that particular costume once, in Batman #312.
edit: scooped by Hague again, dammit.

I'd say it's definitely the Sensei. Dr. Tzin-Tzin had receding hair but was not totally bald, as in that drawing. The Sensei was.

I'm still not sure. The fellow in the montage has pointed ears, ala' Tzin-Tzin, whereas the Sensei did not... Still too close to call from where I'm sitting...

Noah Smith correctly identified the horned villain as the Calendar Man. Another website I visited looking for info on Mirror-Man noted that Calendar Man in that shot is in his Wednesday costume, dressed as Odin. If I'm not mistaken the relevant story involving that outfit was drawn by Walt Simonson. (Batman #312, June 1979) -------------- Love that comic, one of my first Simonson comics to boot. Although the adult in me wonders a bit where Calendar Man got all his tech and costumes, that they almost surely cost more than what he stole. But, it's great artwork, a bunch of cool designs (get to see Simonson play with mythological gods, sorta) and no navel gazing.

Leads to a question for Mr. Byrne - who decided on the villains in that montage? Did the writer request them or was it the artist's discretion. At that point in time, Mirror Man had only appeared just the once, and Signalman (one cover has his name as two words, another as one and he didn't appear on the cover in his first two appearances) was hardly the type to set the world on fire or all that notable as opposed to Deadshot, Blockbuster, Catman, or even the Cavalier.

I am very excited about this being reprinted in a nice collected volume. I have never read this story, although I have heard a lot about it over the years. Does anyone know when this is due to hit the retail outlets? If not, maybe someone could bring our attention to it when it is solicited?
Thanks, Marc

Wow very interesting, especially since I just bought the series recently, (One of the few series I haven't read that Mr. Byrne was apart of). Nothing against Jim Aparo (penciled, inked and lettered his own work 1 page/day and I love his Brave and The Bold at that time) but I was disappointed that Mr. Byrne could not finish the series (Probably the reason I did not pick it up back in the day).

A one-hit villain from 1954, who is overshadowed by the Flash rogue of the same name. ***** It's been 25+ years since I looked in on the Flash regularly, but I assume you mean Mirror Master? I always thought "master" was an odd word to link with mirror (does one really master mirrors?) but it did get him into Flash's often alliterative rogues gallery (Weather Wizard, Captain Cold, Gorilla Grodd, Pied Piper, Golden Glider, etc.)
