Damn, if I knew how to draw a cellphone tower, alligator, whale or hairdryer, this could have been my shot.

The thing that bothers me about this is there really is no story telling involved in this page. They are essentially four pin ups. But with there being four panels on the page. Doing those pin-ups effectively will be difficult.

But then again there is the challenge for me. How to layout the page.

Nice idea. And very good PR too!

I was going to ask why DC is looking for new artists when there are so many artists out there who don't get enough work as it is.  But then it dawned on me that this is just a publicity stunt.

DC actually has a few titles right now I could see myself working on -- and enjoying! Silver Age style Superman and Batman books, even BATMAN 66 (or whatever it's called -- that's one that desperately needs to be done right!)

Trouble is, it's DC, and all the reasons I won't work there are still in play.

You've mentioned this before JB and I wonder, are you speaking of specific people or the general philosophy of the company?

They also involve drawing animals and water. Both near the top of my list of artistic Kryptonite.

I guess they decided "grimacing men in tights crashing through a skylight" was too 90's.

JB should submit his take on this page under a pen name and see if he gets published!

I think it's probably even worse now than when you were last working there...

Don't think like Superman Mark, think like The Batman.
Use all that's at your disposal in your Batcave. (Use photo reference)

Just read over the try-out 'script'.  It came off like a series of pin-ups instead of panels that tell a story.....

Good Luck to all those that are going to enter this. That would be really cool to have a JBF member win.
