I remember reading that Brian. Bus email my not have been
interested in what he was drawing, but it sure didn't keep
the those pages from being amazing. My favorite stuff of
his his is when he drew trolls, ogres and giants.

His animals and women weren't ham fat, either.

Anyone else excited about this one? I love this whole era of Kirby's art when he went over to DC and Kamandi is one of my favorites of the bunch.

Wow! I hadn't seen that one, Shane. Thanks for the heads up.

A Kamandi AE is a real dream come true for me (and I suspect many other Kirby fans).  The Royer-inked issues were just a joy to look at.

I am very hopeful we will see a Demon AE in the future.

Thanks Scott Dunbier and IDW (and to Jack Kirby most of all).

A couple of comments:

The Silver Surfer/Buscema book:
Buscema's best work on SS came in issue #1, #3 (introducing Mephisto), and #4 (Thor/Asgard issue).  The Thor issue was the famous one where, according to Buscema, he walked into Stan Lee's office quite enthused about the pages, only to have Stan cut the work up verbally (and ironically, years later, tell Buscema it was one of the best books they had ever done together).  Whether for that reason or the reduction in the size of the book, or some other, the later work, while nice, never had, at least in my opinion, the same zip.  Unfortunately, none of the first four issues are in this volume, though it's well worth having.

But a real triumph, in my opinion, is the Joe Kubert Enemy Ace AE volume.  Some of Kubert's best work (with a Russ Heath story snuck in)!  Can't recommend it enough!

I look forward to the Kamandi AE volume, and hope it's devoted strictly to Royer-inked books; the later inkers were not my cup of tea.  In fact, by the time we get to Kamandi, aren't there extant stats of most or all of the pencil pages?  They've been printed piecemeal in the Twomorrows publications, but it would be nice to see them assembled in order and published in AE format.

I'm getting ready to buy the Walt Thor volume. Does anyone know why they skipped issues in the 7 that are included?

Good luck trying to get this through your LCS, unless they have a
store copy. Diamond didn't ship mine even through it went in with the
initial order and I'm still waiting. This is the second time they've
screwed this up. The other was another Joe Kubert volume, TOR.

I always like helping out my LCS, but I'm so frustrated with Diamond,
that I may start ordering these directly from IDW.

Sorry for the rant, but I was really excited about this volume.

I continue to be surprised/impressed with the number of these books they are producing.  What's the print run on these, anyone know?  I would've thought the market for these would be pretty small but apparently they are being gobbled up as fast as they can be produced!

A third Kirby book?!?!?!?!  AH!!!!!!!!!

I think it took a while to get the ball
rolling and the audience to find them.
Once that happened, it blew up. I think
it's still a niche market within a niche
market. But it's a bigger niche.

IDW is currently putting out one a month.
Personally, I think it's too many. A
couple of times now, books have gotten
pushed back and then hit the stores in
quick succession. I think that's asking a
lot from the frequent buyer of these. If
they went to four times a year or even
every other month it would give the buyer
a break. There havery been a few quality
issues since increasing the number of
books a year as well. Cutting back would
give the books enough time to be perfect,
especially since the series has
competition from other publishers.

I do too.  I would think releasing 2 to 4 per year and making them a big deal, something special would be better.  I would also like to see more Deluxe Editions offered (signed and/or sketched).  Obviously they are selling or they wouldn't be putting them out so often but I'm not tempted for 90% of them....but dang it, another Kirby.....
