IDW announced Artist/Artifact editions for Don Rosa's and Carl Barks'
Disney work at NYCC.

They also announced an expanded partnership with Marvel to create
more Artist Editions based on great artists and there works.

The new Previews is out and IDW has announced a couple of cool
entries.

First, another volume for the coolest series of books on the planet.
John Romita's Spider-Man Artifact Edition. This will be the third
Romita Spider-Man entry, this one has the distinction of being twice
up in size. As far as content goes, I'm guessing pages and stories not
able to fit into the previous volumes.

Second, Italian artist, Hugo Pratt's CORTO MALTESE. IDW
announced they were going to be publishing a new English translation,
this past summer. Well, the first volume has now been solicited. This is
a series I haven't been able to get, so I'm looking forward to its
release. Interesting that they have a logo for a line of Eurocomics on
the cover. Anybody know what else might be coming from the good
folks at Idea and Design Works.

"Marvel did the double-page spreads on single boards for a while around the mid-seventies. They don't quite fit the page right, the line weight and the scale of the lettering and word balloons don't quite look right, and the pages stood out like sore thumbs. "

I recall Amazing Spider-Man #136 (September 1974) had one of those "low resolution" double page spreads. I think they may have been universal in all Marvel comics that month.

Attn Brad Brickley. The Walt Simonson MANHUNTER AE was
released to the masses today. If you didn't pre order it from Diamond, I
recommend ordering it straight from IDW. Diamond has proven to be
somewhat unreliable in filling reorders on these books.

If anyone picked it up, let us know what you think. This is another one
I would've liked to have but had to pass on. So, I'm eager to hear
what people think.

I passed on the Basil Wolverton (so far) but had to have the Manhunter one.  It should be arriving soon.

IDW doing a Mister Miracle one.  All we need now is a Jimmy Olsen and a Forever People and we have the entire Fourth World represented!

It looks like the Buscema Silver Surfer will be out in November (per Previews).

That's my next one. I can hardly believe it's taken this long to get a
John Buscema Artist Edition.

problem with a Buscema artist edition is he sold most of his art. The
early AE were from artists who kept their art.

Uncle Walt must've never sold a piece to have this many AE's of his
work. All deserved, but still.

Kinda surprised with the number of art collectors that are members
here, as well as trollers, that IDW doesn't post requests for a particular
artists work on a title here.

I'm very much looking forward to the Buscema SILVER SURFER but
that really the tip of the iceberg on material I'd love an Artist Edition
for. I'm still hoping for volumes on his Avengers, Thor and Conan
work. Heck, now that they've opened up the idea for Artifact Editions,
maybe we could get a few of those.

Scott Dunber is the person at IDW who first started the Artist Editions
and continues to over see them. He has a vast network of collectors he
works with who know where alot of the original art resides. Many are
very private and Scott tends not to post on public forums looking for art.
Beyond those who kept their art like Walt, Scott has found alot of art in
private collections.

I gather the next Steranko Artist's Edition comes with either a Nick Fury cover (Fury in space with earth exploding in the background) or a Captain America cover.  This may be a difficult choice . . .

I've always appreciated the late William F. Buckley Jr.'s definition of "rich":  "not having to wait for the paperback."  I may have to scrap it in favor of "not having to choose between two editions."

Robert, unless you order it from IDW, you generally get whatever
cover Diamond happens to pull. Although, than likely, one is the
regular cover and one is a con exclusive.

Also, in some cases the when an Artist Editon gets announced or
solicited that they use a mock up cover. JB's FF was solicited with an
enitrely different cover than what became final.

The same happened with the Steranko Nick Fury AE. I was two
different covers when announced and solicited, neither of which got
used. The final cover was designed by Steranko himself. I didn't see
the final cover till I opened the box.

I am going for the Nick Fury cover (unless the Captain America one is better).  Heh.  Seriously, I will likely get the Fury one as it is a Fury AE in my mind and the Cap stuff is bonus material.

The covers previewed are not the ones that will be released - Steranko is designing the books.
