I was at a local shop and was able to see the Steranko
book. Nicely done and certainly has his graphic art
influence all over it. The cover alone was eye-poppin'!

Brad, my Simonson THOR AE second printing was shrink-wrapped. I
also got a variant that wasn't supposed to see the light of day until
next week at SDCC. How I got that cover, I haven't a clue.

I dare say that you can't really use the HELLBOY AE as a litmus test
either. My guess is, and it's only a guess, that the reason for two of
these coming back to back like this and with, what I see as small
issues, is IDW rushing them out to make them available at SDCC next
weekend.

I get wanting to have the product out for the biggest trade show the
industry has, but with a book series that has set such a high standard
in quality and presentation, and with the price tag they carry, being
good enough isn't good enough. Especially when you figure that you
have major competition for this type of product knocking at your back
door.

And again, let me say, I like the product I got. It wasn't damaged in
any way. I just think that IDW has set a high standard on how these
books are put together and shipped. There are a few areas where
they didn't meet what I'm used to seeing from them.

But, even more than that, shipping two of these in two weeks feels like
there pushing there luck on what a repeat buyer of these should have
to absorb financially. Generally I budget these into my expenses for a
month. I was ready for the Steranko AE, but this...I've already had to
tell my LCS owner that I'm not going to be able to purchase this
outright. He was very understanding, but I hate that I have to ask him
to sit on a product like this until it's paid for.

At least with the ones coming in October, they were solicited at the
same time, so I know what I'm in for.

Your theory make complete sense Paul. I had wondered about
the timing myself.

Well, it looks like November will bring Joe Kubert's ENEMY ACE Artist
Edition. IDW has used a lot of placeholders for covers that eventually
change. I hope this stays the final cover. It's mighty purdy!

Enemy Ace looks fantastic. I'm hoping we get an announcement for the Best of EC vol.2 in the near future. The first volume is one of my absolute favorites.

Enemy Ace really does look great.  So happy to see this Kubert art get the treatment it deserves.

Best of EC Volume 2 would be fantastic.

Heard that the lack of shrink-wrap was a production error and that the Hellboy AE will also be shipped this way.

I saw the Steranko edition at my local shop today. That is actually the
first one I have seen in person. It was very impressive! What do
these typically sell for at comic shops?

Hellboy too? Production error?

I'm going to stick with my original theory. But, as long as they can
correct the problems. They have to understand. The people who pack
boxes for Diamond are not the sharpest people around. These things
need to be idiot proof.

That is what the IDW shipping department said: a production error.

It depends Marc. If you pre order, they range from $100-$150. If you
wait for them to hit the shelves or hit ebay, $150- $450 depending on
the volume, printing and if it's a variant.

The Mike Mignola HELLBOY Artist Edition came out today.

For those griping that you could see any variation in the inks, this ones
for you. The scans are prefect. The story is taken from the Hellboy In
Hell story from this year, so boy are these pages white. I'm talking
Ross Gellar Bleached Teeth white. The extra stuff in the back is older
and why I bought the book. It even has the promo story written by JB!
