Marvel Covers finally got me to pre-order one of these form my LCS. The Simonson Thor tempts me every week.
I was just at heroes con and all the AE books were 125 and up.

I missed the Dave Stevens Rocketeer book when it was released, but jumped on the Walt Simonson Thor the second I heard about it (especially since he was a guest at Comic-Con the year it came out, and I knew I'd be able to get it signed by the man himself). It's been so incredible getting to see things like The Ballad of Beta Ray Bill and Daredevil: Born Again with fresh eyes--comics that I'd read dozens of times over the years, but it was like they were brand new.

Andrew, the Dave Stevens book is exquisite. You can still find a
second printing on the after market for a decent price.
The Will Eisner SPIRIT AE might still be my favorite, I can't
recommend that one enough.

Stephen--Thanks! I picked up the Dave Stevens book as soon as the second printing became available last year. I've got a near-complete set at this point, and if anything, it's lack of room in my house that has slowed up my buying habits as opposed to lack of interest in the content. I need bigger bookshelves, and more of them.

I had to custom build a bookcase to fit these. I was glad a waited till I
got a twice up collection before I built it. Otherwise...

I picked up the Peanuts AE. Really nice, some great examples of all the
early characters and some amazing ones featuring Snoopy. A few strips I
instanly remembered. The nice thing aboit doing an artists edition of
Peanuts is most were stand alone strips not a continuing story as in
comic books. These were from the 50s, hope they do a 60's and 70s
artist editions.

How much do the strips differ from or add to the B&W copies we've seen as printed in newspapers all the years? I've got a complete run of the excellent Fantagraphics books. Except for the size, what else is on the board so to speak?

Having seen a lot of Schulz originals over the years (but not the book, yet--Post Office is taking their sweet time to deliver it, and I'll bet they're all siting around reading it), I'll say that his originals are incredibly neat, so this won't be as sharp a contrast from the printed versions as something like the New Gods Artist's Edition, which was loaded with erased figures, white paint, and other alterations.
The Peanuts strips have more subtle differences, or the occasional margin note, but Schulz seemed to have the layout and scripts pretty solidly planned before he'd move onto the final draft.

I agree they are very neat and I have the whole Peanuts reprints so far.
The size does makes a big difference but I like seeing the reproductions
of the raw inks.

That's what I thought. Being a Minnesotan of a certain generation, it was almost required that one be a fan of Schulz. I've been one since my first memories and I've never seen any original strips that varied too much from their publication. So aside from the larger format, and considering I own tons of PEANUTS stuff already, I'm not sure I feel all that compelled to pick up this AE.

Matt, I felt the same way. Until.....
My LCS called saying they had a customer order one and then bail on
it. So, I'm getting a Charles Schulz PEANUTS AE. The comic shop is
cutting me a deal so it's not bad.
For those of you who have one, have you SEEN the secondary market
for the Schulz edition. It's insane for a book that just hit the stands in
the last two weeks.

John Buscema's SILVER SURFER AE
and
