A donation is just that. The fact that JB wants to reward the donor does not effect it as a tax deduction. Trevor is incorrect.
Trevor is also incorrect in that you can't claim a tax deduction when you receive an item for your donation. If the item was worth $30 and you paid $100, you are able to claim a $70 donation. If there is no value given to the item it is up to you (or your accountant) to determine its value.

Edited to add: I hate posting on my phone.

The person who donates the most is allowed to go into JB's garbage and liberate some paper. =)  Donating to a charity has its own reward and I like the fact JB is encouraging us to donate. If he allows you to root around in his garbage and take some paper for making that donation, cool. Let's not split hairs. This is awesome so keep it that way.

Why does it seem that every time JB tries to do something charitable, someone has to try and make a mess of it?

JB, as the Director of a nonprofit organization, I just wanted to say, thanks. This is very cool of you.

As Byrne pointed out, we are talking about xeroxes... I'm not going crazy overboard on my donation amount! No worries!

I haven't, but am going to today, I am going to donate to the American Cancer Society. Could we email one of the mods with our donation amount and they announce who won?

Our family made a donation to the American Cancer Society. Not a huge amount, unfortunately, but the best we could do at this point in time. Oddly enough, I received an email from ACS about making a donation at the same time as reading this post and figured if that wasn't telling me to do something, I don't know what would!

I suggest no one announce the amount of his/her donation until the 15th. Just donate what you feel you can, and hope for the best. Don't want this to be like eBay, with someone "swooping in" at the last moment to beat out the top "bid".
