That Gacia-Lopez Superman looks amazing. Also it really makes me long for the old costume. Although the way Superman is written these days it still wouldn't be my Superman even if he still had that costume, but at least he'd look right.

I love that Byrne/Garcia-Lopez Teen Titans page too. I will have to track that issue down. Was never really into the Titans but that's one I'd definitely get for the art alone as its a hole in my Byrne collection and a master at his craft inked by another master of his craft.

I remember seeing Superman poster by JB and JLGL. Anyone else
know what I'm talking about...?

Also, I wonder how the combo would look the other way around, JB
inking Garcia-Lopez' pencils?

I think Lopez draws women the right way. They are sexy and physically appealing, but they are always classy and seem to "glow" with an internal radiance that I find appealing yet hard to put my finger on specifically.

Is it wrong that I just can't accept/believe that Garcia-Lopez doesn't care for superheroes? ;)

+++

John Buscema said the same thing, I heard he didn't like doing superheroes either. That's why he loved doing Conan.....

••

The big difference was, it SHOWED in Big John's work.

I was looking at some of his FF issues this morning, and it's painfully obvious he was phoning it in. The layouts are largely uninspired, and the scenes within those layouts are bare-bones minimum to get the job done.

Thing is, Buscema was SUCH a fantastic artist, even his lesser efforts are still streets ahead (ahem!) of many other artists (such as me!) at their best. I look at Conan pages, where he WAS enthusiastic about the work, and it makes me sad to think his AVENGERS or FF work could have been just that much MORE.

"Classy" sums it up. His women are elegant and sophisticated, unless there is some specific reason for them not to be. They are not the kind of tramps that infest too many superhero comics, passed off as "sexy".

I agree, JB. It's like JLGL is drawing the Grace Kellys and Gene
Tierneys, while others are drawing the Jenny McCarthys and Carmen
Electras!

I still love Buscema's Avengers, but you're absolutely right, Chief. You can tell he really loved drawing Conan.
