Nelvana is a Canadian character, from the black and white comics published up there during WW2 when there was an embargo on foreign publications.

JB, I remember you mentioning Snowbird's connection to this character in an interview, and soon after that I was lucky enough to find at my local library the hardback "The Great Canadian Comic Books", which had a small section devoted to Nelvana.  It piqued my interest in comic books from outside of the United States, and eventually lead to exposure to titles like TINTIN and Japanese manga.

It's funny -- looking at this image again, I am struck by the howls of outrage we'd hear drifting south across the 49th Parallel if an American company published EXACTLY that same cover. "Eskimos -- Mounties -- Trappers". "THAT'S NOT WHAT WE'RE ALL ABOUT, YOU KNOW!!!"

JB, I remember Macleans magazine did exactly that for X-MEN #120, referring to James Hudson as "Major Mapleleaf" and snarking about the appearance of Pierre Trudeau (who was a frequent target of Macleans' editorial ire, if I recall correctly).

I'm going to be looking at that robot forever!

Awe inspiring use of the grey to give it that 'hand hammered' look.

The swastika looks like it's glowing!

I told Jim Warden that. historical accuracy notwithstanding, I wasn't in the mood for being crucified, so I asked for a change of villain.

iiiii

Good catch.
I recall your "page inside a page" that responded to 40's racism in Namor.
Next to impossible to provide the same context in a commission I reckon.

Wow!  This one is a stunner!!  Love the gray tones.  It makes me think of Generations or the time travel story in Wonder Woman.  Love it!

The robot looks smiling and demented.
