J B says: "Among the top reasons, Phillipe, would be the fact that's not a job I've ever wanted!"

It looks like you have been offered the job sometime?
This is one good What If..?  !!!!

I must say, that I like JB's idea about 1000,000 times better than what Marvel actually published.

••

There are about 100 reasons that cover makes me cringe*, not the least of which is the degree to which it represents all the nonsense Chris shoveled into the X-Lore, and what others built on that nonsense since.

The whole X and Magneto used to be lab partners has no foundation in the pre-Claremont X-Men -- and wasn't that lab kinda crowded, what with X, and Karl Lykos, AND Moira, AND Magneto? Plus, the whole "friends fall out" angle had already been played with Lykos/Sauron.

T'shah!!!!!

________

* Among them, this habit of drawing Logan's distinctive do more "realistically", with the result that it basically ends up looking like bed-hair.

Nope. No point offering me something I don't want!

What a great commission idea ! And a fabulous result !
I love every detail of it, from the costume changes to the heroes' trophies scattered among the debris, and the threatening poses and expressions.
Hat's off to JB ! And Congratulations, Stuart !

Hm! Just noticed that Pietro, in the corner symbol, is missing the left side of his head! Must fix that on the original!

I just imagined the the All New All Different team forming to battle the "M-Men".

••

Interesting idea. Who would you see bringing them together?

This is such a neat idea and a cool commission. I'm imagining Magneto told Beast he gave him those claws so he'd be more dangerous, but truly he just wanted to make sure the brilliant Dr. McCoy had some metal on him that could be controlled... just in case.

Something I don't think has ever been "addressed" official is the fact that Hank was a dumb lunkhead when introduced in X-MEN 1, and didn't become a "bookworm" until the third issue. When I was originally concocting my plot for this WHAT IF? I wondered briefly if the Beast's increase in intelligence was something Xavier had engineered, without telling anybody.

That would have made quite a difference in how this "alternate timeline" played out, no?

The fact that you don't want it makes you perfect for it. For you, it
wouldn't be about a personal agenda, or the little bit of power obtained
from having it. This way it could just be about the characters and
stories. This is a great piece JB. I definitely want to read that story.
These days, reading any Marvel book feels like a What If? story.

Oh man ... it's exciting and depressing at the same time to see this.

Exciting since - like others have commented - I have desperately wanted to read this comic since reading the Art of John Byrne.

Depressing because this was my dream commission as well.  Just have never been in the position where I could afford to commission it.

Congrats to Stuart for getting motivated and getting it ordered.

Once again, I'm seeing the Marvel characters (or What If variants) I love.  Pure Awesome!!!

A new Byrne run on What If would be sooo sweet!

JB could write and draw arcs from a Marvel era where the characters were still interesting to him. He could follow his career path with What If stories pulled from each of his runs... Iron Fist, Marvel Team Up, X-Men, Avengers, Fantastic Four.

A man can dream!
