I believe this one is mine.

Wow....just wow.

I don't know where to begin.  My eyes keep darting to different parts of the commission, soaking up the details.  Some of the things that leap out at me:

--Beast just looks cool.  I like the subtle evocation of Wolverine with the "after-market" claws.  I can see that Magneto would want to make his group even more dangerous than their mutant abilities.

--How each character still looks like the characters we know and love...but have a slight sinister bent.

--Iceman using his powers to create a nasty stabbing instrument.

--How even in this one image, some of the character interactions (Scott and Jean) are still apparent.

--Archangel's flaming sword.

--The iconic Marvel trophies scattered around the feet of the group (I see Thor's hammer, Iron Man's mask, Cap's shield, Fantastic Four insignia, anything else?)

--How Magneto is completely, unrepentantly evil.  I never liked how this character got softened after JB left the X-Men.  Magneto was a great bad guy--and should have remained so.  (I always considered him one of the great manipulators in the Marvel Universe, particularly in how he controlled Wanda and Pietro and played members of his Brotherhood off of each other.)

--And so much more.

Thanks, JB, for taking on this commission and exceeding my expectations.  Thanks, also, for all the years of enjoyment your work has given me.

And thanks to Jim Warden, who is one of the nicest guys in the art world to work with.  Thank you!

Again, wow; this is incredible....

That would be one cool comic. I was never that much of a fan of What If...? but this just screams out that it would be one hell of a fun story.

Beast looks mean and awesome, while Iceman's ice harpoon is actually pretty scary. The details in the rubble are the cherry on top.

NOOOOOO!!!!   Please let me be living in an alternate universe where this comic actually saw the light of day!!!!  What If was one of my favorite comics since I was a kid in the 70's (I still own 2 copies of the 1st issue used to ref. this commission).

Awesome.  It would really be a great idea for Marvel to let the classic creators do a What If series.

Who wants to commission page 1?

"What If" is a series that could never even get started today.  Just think, the stories were all (with only rare exceptions) done in a single-issue.  And each one left a reader satisfied that he'd read an interesting story.

I usually eschew the following exclamatory acronym; however, in this
instance, find it quite apropos.

OMG!

'Nuff said?

Why, oh why must you torture and tease us so? After reading ART OF
JOHN BYRNE, I so wanted to see this story materialize! This is
probably as close as we'll ever get. Beautiful work!

I guess it's pretty obvious that I'm a fan of ol' Hank!
