Why all the hate of Cyclops by the Marvel "architects"....? It seems these writers are bound and determined to ruin characters instead of preserving them for future generations of comic readers. In the last decade, these "architects" have done quite a lot of damage to the MU.++ Cyclops, while a bit moody at times, was always honest and noble. A real hero and leader. Much like Captain America. Most people hate in others what they lack in themselves. What better way to get over that little psychological hump than to destroy what was and recreate it in their own image. Hence, Cyclops is now a "dick" and a pseudo-villain who throws children in harm's way and kills. •• It's not often we can point to the EXACT moment a character goes off the rails, but in the case of Cyclops, it happened HERE: MOST of the scene as plotted is there, with Scott struggling to come to terms with his feelings for/about the transformed Jean/Phoenix, but the moment where Ororo walks quietly away to give Scott time with his thoughts, Chris, for reasons beyond comprehension, chose to turn into an out-of-character feminist diatribe. All on the basis of a SINGLE WORD that HE, as writer, had put into Scott's mouth. From that point, the mail coming in changed. Noble Scott was GONE, and fans were complaining about what a "jerk" he was. The depth of his emotional turmoil was completely obfuscated by Storm's rant. In the decades since, of course, it has only gotten worse. ("You're a dick." Audience cheers.)
