In addition to the autograph I enjoyed some hunting.
I never had these particular Treasury Editions as a kid, so I had to fix that!

I am glad to be on a needed break from conventions. Still 7 weeks until Chicago. Plenty of time to rest.

OK I have a question. I am really excited to go to the Chicago Con and am not sure how to approach this. I am wanting to get a nice leather bound sketchbook to have artists sign and do a quick little doodle. How do I go about asking this and what is it going to cost? I don't want an in depth sketch, just a fun quick doodle. Will artists be offended to be asked this?

Nope. Some will agree to do it and most will turn you Dow. For freebie sketches. Anyone offended by it, takes life a bit too seriously.

It was nice to meet you at the con, Steven. Looks like you had a good time doing various interviews.
Yeah, it was a lot fun. Although sometimes they can be... Odd in some people's treating of Annie due to her fetchingness. But nothing that can't be laughed about later.
Was hit with a fever and have been resting since I arrived home late Sunday.
Sorry to hear you took ill, Paul. That was my first con in the US and I made it a point, having seen my co-workers come back sick from these things, to try and get rest and take lots of vitamin C. There's so many people at these things, and with all the talking and laughing making one's throat raw, it's nearly impossible not to pick something up.
Forgot some italics

Jodi, some artists will do free quick doodles some will not. You will just have to be prepared for many refusals. Just politely ask when you ask for their autograph. Ten years ago I would say you'd have a 90% success rate. Now I would say it is less than 50%. If you are looking for paid headshots they can range from $20-$250 depending on the artist. Average headshot is $50-$75. Tip: The larger your sketch book the less likely artists will sketch for free in it.

Paul thanks for the info. I would never expect a free sketch, I just didn't want to offend anyone or find out even if they did it. I didn't know if you have to send the sketchbook to the artist to work on. Jon always went with me to cons and Jackson isn't as into comics, so this is the first trip going to con, just for me. A little nervous. The paid headshots, do you have to pre order those?

Jodi, some artists do take advance orders for their sketch lists. However, since you want them done in a sketch book I would recommend you just find out what artists you want to get and set it up at the show. Some take lists, some do them while you wait. It varies. Sketch lists fill up quick for most artists so that should be your first plan of attack when you walk through the con floor. Don't get distracted by celebrities or the dealers room. Head to artist alley first and start setting up sketches asap!

For those who are interested, Michael Shannon, Gerneral Zod of Man of Steel, is going to be at the Chicago Con on Saturday, August 10th only.

Shannon is on my list of celebs I want to meet at the show. He is brilliant on BOARDWALK EMPIRE. Also liked his work in REVOLUTIONARY ROAD and TAKE SHELTER. I will not be getting a Zod picture signed that is for sure. I shall focus on the positive.
