Looks like the weather conspired to change everyone's plans....no JBF gathering in Wilmington.

As feared I will on a plane from ATL to LAX when Heroes con Starts. So I am Targeting Baltimore Comic Con to be my con for the year. The Mrs. was interested in seeing the city so it seems like a good fit.
I'm headed to Charlotte for Free Comic Book Day because I need to go eat at fuel pizza and they have an extensive guest list. Any other good FCBD events happening?

I went to Wondercon in Anaheim this past weekend - it was a great time! I talked about the IDW panels in another thread, but more about the rest of the fest...
The convention center was a perfect fit - very spacious, and it had wonderful outdoor areas outside the arena as well as between the two hotels, which has recently been changed from a vehicle road to a pedestrian walkway. It's now an open area with plenty of room to enjoy the sunshine and take costume photos. And the food trucks on the walkway were delicious! Since when did food trucks become hip? They were a joke when I was a kid.
I was hunting for some comic books in particular - I have never read JB's DOOMSDAY +1, and was able to snag all six issues over the weekend. Knowing JB's storytelling, I won't need to know this story to enjoy the upcoming IDW release DOOMSDAY.1, but the curiosity has been killing me since the new series was announced.
I found a BATTLE POPE trade paperback called "Mayhem", which I thought appropriate/sacrilegious for Easter and a new Pope coming to "power". And a really fun find was a DC Showcase of HOUSE OF MYSTERY - I couldn't turn up a Berni Wrightson cover!
I also bought the most ragged, beat up copies of original Kirby Fantastic Four issues from the year I was born (1968), as well as the Fantastic Four Marvel Treasury Edition. They are all so beat up that I bought them on the cheap . Even though I have them in trades, I just like the fun of reading the books in their original format.
The panels were really cool - I have never seen Wendy Pini before, and she was a real treat as I am such a fan of ELFQUEST. And a panel of TV showrunners was really interesting.

WonderCon was fun this past weekend. A true COMIC BOOK show, with a heavy emphasis on comics, trades, golden/silver age collections, orginal art, toys and assorted merchandise. Saw several children, which is always a good thing in relation to comics. Also saw several female fans of various ages, who were actually INTO comics. There are definitely untapped markets out there that the major publishers are ignoring to the industry's detriment IMO. The artform appears to be thriving, even if the companies appear unable or uniterested in appealing to its fans in a general sense. But I digress...I enjoyed my day at WonderCon and am already making plans to enjoy more of the show next year. Here's hoping that it continues to be held here in Anaheim and becomes what San Diego Comic Con USED to be - a show for fans of comic book, fantasy and other related media.

Wonder Con is on my short list of cons I would like to attend. Mega and Heroes being the other two. Sounds like a great time, Tim. Only one thing is missing from your report, a listing of con sketches you picked up! ;)
