G'day All, I'm a new member to these boards and just wanted to post a couple of pictures to this thread as I recently had the opportunity to visit John's home and view his incredible collection of statues, busts, posters, books, dvds, original comic art, airplanes, cars, biscuit tins and so much more!
Courtesy of good mate Jim Warden, I got the opportunity to meet one of my comic creator heroes whose work I've followed as a younger reader when I started collecting comics with X-Men No. 95 in the mid-70s.
John, you were a charming and gracious host who seemed to enjoy showing off your collectibles and I was delighted and thrilled to view them! One of the stand-out pieces was a "statue" of a creature from one of my favourite movies/television series "Quatermass and the Pit". Wonderful "racial memory" plot.
I will always remember fondly my visit to John's home and cannot thank both Jim and John enough for arranging the visit and allowing me the opportunity to chat with one of my heroes :) I also treasure greatly the Shanna the She-Devil illustration that John created during my visit for my 50th birthday.
Photos of the visit can be seen here - http://www.comicartfans.com/GalleryRoom.asp?GSub=64631
I was very impressed with John's story of how he created the Darth Vader statue because he was not happy with the store version! Awesome work! Best,
Royd
