james...and you smashed your laptop why?
nice pieces by the way.
as an extremely constructive crit, i would work on adding as much detail
to the musculature of the legs as you do to the torso.
as a little introduction to my line of thought, when i look at comic art i
don't get all hung up on anatomy, it's more about the conveyance of the
story and whether or not the art detracts from the story.
i know there are guys who take anatomy very seriously and that's
great...but like them or not, guys like rob liefield have found a niche in
the industry and anatomy isn't exactly their strong suit.
i mean lets look at frank miller, jim lee, marc silvestri, todd mcfarlane...all
these guys have at times employed some questionable anatomy...but they
made it work.
either by using phenomenal writing, composition, inking or colors, those
fellas made things happen whether or not the anatomy was dead on or
not.
i adore walt simonson...and while he's certainly capable of drawing
extremely realistic figures, his comic art does not bind itself in the laws of
strict anatomy.
so while as a student of the art it's great to try and get as close as
possible to guys like burne hogarth, as a student of the comics medium
it's not always necessary.
since i know from reading earlier posts that there are guys who really
want detailed critiques of their work i though i would go ahead and add
my opinion.
you keep on going james...every time you pick up a pencil and touch the
point to paper you're learning, getting better and growing as an artist.

Thanks James your right of course and thanks for the crit. Drawing figures is really fun and some times hard work. i figure if i keep practising i'll get it right one day. We all learn looking at each others stuff, and its good to hear what someone thinks of it.so thanks for that.
I didn't break the laptop on purpose, i was watching a dvd in bed with a pair of ear phones on and when i finished i put the earphones between the screen and keyboard.the next day i lifted the laptop and pressed the earphones into the screen smashing it in 2 places.£1500.down the drain,my luck just wasn't in that month.it will cost me £500 for a new screen. BUMMER.

my wife is an aspiring writer so she has her trusty ibook laptop that she
keeps with her constantly. we're a completely mac family..lol
she was sitting on the bed writing and accidentally knocked it off the
edge. it fell on the dog (my poor domino!) and then hit the floor.
when she picked it up it wouldn't close...the screen had been pushed too
far open and the casing had warped.
luckily i have a good friend as the computer guy at my office so he's
going to take a look at it to see if he can fix it.
she didn't break it...but she came damn close.
