About influences.
My comic work (not pro, published in fanzines or not published), is not a big number of pages, done at different times, and about different themes. Yes, there are superheroes stories, but also other diverse themes. On the first ones, the influences (JB's among them) are obvious, and also deliberate. The other type, they are more personal stuff, I think.
My illustration work (done for the fun) is totally different, totally personal stuff (as shown here with two 'finished' pieces ('The Gap' on page 102 and the untitled one on page 106 of this thread). This type of pieces are my personal style since 1985, when I started to 'create' stuff at tender age of 15. Obviously, there was an evolution on the skill with the tool (ballpoint), anatomy domain and so, but the themes and style was there since the first time. Occasionaly I have done a few deliberated homages to other artists on these pieces, mostly painters, but they are the exception.
My paintings and charcoals (I have done a handful of them only) are mostly expressionist stuff, big size, loose stroke of brush.
Obviosly, when doing a comic work (mostly comicbooks related), proportions, perspective and anatomy are a very important issue. It's a rule you must follow. Let say, it's a measurable dimension of the 'quality' of the artist. On the swipe of artist A or B issue, it's a dead end route. The only ending you being a bad Byrne or Davis or BWS... copy. If you are unable to differentiate of your idol, you are on big problems as artist, skill notwhitstanding.
