"Original pencils and inks by the lovely and talented Anthony Lombardi and colors by me:"-Matt

C&C!? You are a brave man!

First impressions, I like it first and foremost.

Second I'd pick you up on the flames. I like the smoke but the flames just don't do it for me, maybe had they been on the end of a match I might have bought it but nope, they don't work. Take a good look and some pictures of Jets with their afterburners on...now there's some power;-)

Third I'd say, you need to ad some shadows to help make the character "pop" simply put, he's in broad daylight the shadows would be in high contrast, however much or little would be in view.

That's it!

But don't lose sight of my first impression!

Good job Matt.

Well now i'm taking a look at it for a second time now Matthew. so i can say some new things. I agree with Darren about the flames , The face plate i would have done it looking like a a mirror just to contrast with the yellow and red's and to pick up the colors of the blue sky. Other then that......

Matthew i know i designed it but , your coloring is making me see so many things that it didn't really notice all that much when i drew it so many things are standing out awesome. :) You actually made the design look much cooler than i had designed 2 thumbs up on the craftsmanship

Darren and Anthony - thank you for the kind words.

Flames - yeah, my wife didn't like them either.  I don't know enough about photoshop to do them correct...yet!  I did look at some jet flames, but what I saw was really just that distorted heat look with white and blue -inside- the burner.  the angle didn't lend itself to seeing inside the burners, so i went with a "space shuttle" look.  Since then, i've found a tutorial on flames, so we'll see next time

Shadows - there are some subtle shadows on there, but one of the things i fight with is trying to keep away from looking like "balloon" arms, etc. I -hate- overcoloring - i try to accentuate, not overpower, so i do need to excentuate the shadows more.  the other thing is that i believe Anthony did this as a sketch, so he didn't add a lot of shading (like with Darren's Batman I did) in the inks.  I usually depend on that for the darks.

But I'm learning and that's the important thing.  And Darren - if it takes being brave to get C&C - bring it on.  The only way to get better is to get GOOD C&C from other folks!

Anthony - i tried really hard to to do just that.  If you ever do another Iron Man in your version I'd love to give it a whirl.

Hey - just found another afterburner pic that makes more sense to what you were saying Darren.

I'll do better next time!

Matt do you have this on a psd file with the layers intact?

If soreduce the image so it's no wider than 900pixels and email it to me please and I'll do a quick rough and ready example of what I was talking about.

Regards,

Darren

This is mostly from a sketchbook I drew in over 10 years ago. Just stuff I
did for myself, so quality definitely varies. Back then I was considering
going to art school after college, but the bubble bust right around the
time I got out and I decided I was safer sticking to computers. Sometimes
I wonder what could have been though....
