So a large number of retailers have responded to the new series (AFTERMATH) by. . . CUTTING THEIR ORDERS!! *********** I wonder how many, if any, of the current retailer crop would survive even ONE semester in a business class (or school!)? MPH

Just speculation on my part...maybe the TPBs are more profitable than the regular issues, so they are in a sense forcing customers to pick up the collections that way. Also, I imagine the TPBs are easier to sell than the single back issues. Personally, if I missed a series, I would be more inclined to buy the trade paperback than the individual issues.

I wonder what would have happened if there was no break between issue 39 and 40...
I guess the sales could have gone up?
Breaking for a few months lowered the sales?
Crazy.

The LCS around here ordered five issues of numbers 1,2&3 of COLD WAR and ordered four of issue 4. I griped about how can people try something new if it's not on the stands. Then when I went to buy issue four he was out. Me- Are you out of COLD WAR #4? LCS- Yep. Me- What happened, you had enough of the first three issues? LCS- oh, I cut the order back by a copy. Me- Didn't you sell out of the first three? LCS- Yeah. Me- Then why would you cut the order back on a book you were selling out of? LCS- We cut the fourth issue of all of our books. Me- DUDE! IT'S A FOUR ISSUE MINI THAT YOU SOLD OUT OF THE FIRST THREE ISSUES!? You're only ordering five copies. It's not a bank breaking investment! LCS- So, do you want me to reorder it? Me- Um, yeah, please!

I would've said "No, I'll find it someplace else." Then, followed it up with, "I think I'll just find ALL my books someplace else since you have no real desire to make money."

LCS- We cut the fourth issue of all of our books. I dream of a place where that thinking no longer exists. I think it's called "Heaven"....

The return of NEXT MEN was pretty incredible - seeing those characters again and being in that universe was such a welcome return to how comic books should be. Anyone who followed the series will remember it gained momentum as it progressed, so I feel AFTERMATH will not have trouble finding readers. Once people see the familiar NEXT MEN logo, I think they will want to check it out.

As for COLD WAR...
"The Damocles Contract" is ripe for a solid trade paperback - I read it in one shot when the last issue came out, and it's a very cool read. The art is as tight and effective as NEXT MEN. And it features those alternate covers that were so hard to find!
The COLD WAR trade is worth reading for anyone who liked the return of NEXT MEN. It's such solid comic book storytelling, and yet it is the most unique and cinematic of JB's recent titles.

The COLD WAR trade is worth reading for anyone who liked the return of NEXT MEN. And, I would like to think, anyone who DIDN'T! When I was working on the first COLD WAR arc, it felt like something that would have, perhaps, the widest "civilian appeal" of any of my work. No need to love superheroes, no backstory to know, none of those elements that might put someone off trying a comicbook. I was in Barnes & Noble the other day, and saw multiple copies of both NEXT MEN (second series) hardcovers in the "graphic novels" section. Hopefully, COLD WAR will get the same treatment, and find an audience denied to it by sale only in comic shops.

LCS- We cut the fourth issue of all of our books. how can there a be a 'community' where so many people love Mr. Spock but seem to refuse to use logic?
