Yes, there has been a super team of only 3 members before , but in animation, not in comics (as far as I know). The Space Sentinels, the Galaxy Trio, and the Teen Force are 3 superhero teams with only 3 members.

There was also a trio in an episode of BATMAN BEYOND.

As for trios in superhero mags, do the Nightstalkers count?

Or how about the Invaders?

I used to consider the Doom Patrol a trio because I didn't count the
Chief. I also used to not count Professor X in the X-Men.

After Rick mentioned THE GALAXY TRIO, I watched a couple of episodes on
YouTube.

Ah, memories...

There were quite a few golden-age teams made up of three members wearing identical or nigh identical uniforms, though usually one character was the defacto leader ie Target and the Targeteers. The most famous such grouping would be the Marvel Family that at most times was comprised of simply Captain Marvel, Captain Marvel Junior, and Mary Marvel. And the first attempt at creating a spin-off grouping of Captain Marvel are the three Lt. Marvels. Likewise Sivana had his own evil family with a son and daughter that bedeviled Captain  Marvel Jr. and Mary Marvel, so it was three vs. three.

Yeah, there was one in Teen Titans Go! with the same cool theme as Trio:

I believe the book "Planetary" starred a team that consisted of only three members.  Looking forward to this new book and will definitely be ensuring my LCS adds it to my pull list.

Couple of versions of Power Rangers started a trios, but they added
members later.
