One of my favorite (uhhh...is that the right word?) death scenes in comics, ever. Completely tragic, shocking, and horrifying. I mean, we literally see Mac blown apart and incinerated in those two pages. And, to add insult to injury... * This occurs seconds after he manages to defeat Box/Jaxon. * Heather causes Mac's death by accident. And watches the whole thing. The one saving grace is Mac's "But it's still overheating. I may not--", which hints that Mac might not have been able to defuse the power-pack even if Heather hadn't walked in. Of course, JB revealed a while back that, had Heather not walked in, Mac would have been successful in disconnecting the pack. Which is yet another kick to the gut! I should also add that Mac's "return" was a masterstroke. Just out-there enough to be a plausible comic book-style resurrection, but just out-there enough to be suspicious. And, of course, "Mac"/Courtney's story obviously conflicts with what we saw--Mac was clearly blown apart and incinerated, with no chance of being propelled to another planet by the blast. And then Courtney's fabricated story was used to really bring Mac back later on.
