The great thing about the "Marvel Comics Group" banner across the top is that if you had comics with different titles on the newstand in front of each other you only had to see the top inch of the cover to see what the issue was.
And of course the era represented here was around the time I started buying the Avengers, so needless to say, so I love it.

Loved the inclusion of the Beast. Glad he was picked.

Just as the Coca-Cola bottle was designed to be recognizable even when broken, comicbook covers used to be designed to be instantly recognizable when mostly covered up.

JB, I especially like the lettering on the "Earth's Mightiest Heroes!" portion of the cover dressing. Very nice!
Also, I really like the incorporation of the date into the corner box. Great, great stuff. I hope this leads to more faux covers!

I hope this leads to more faux covers! •• I'm surprised we haven't seen more! Really, the faux INVADERS cover is the only other one. Plenty of recreations and reimaginings, but. . . When I started doing commissions, I expected the majority of pieces would be "crossovers" and imaginary covers.

Nowadays with no corner box or MCG banner with the title included. They were even putting the Fantastic Four masthead at the bottom of the cover for a while, as if that made any sense.

Seeing these classic covers of JB working on Marvel (or DC) characters is always bitter sweet.
Well done, JB!
