BTW, for as long as I've wanted to see a JB Bond title, I think I may be as excited for this series ( of series) almost as much as JBNM.

With the reference I have been accumulating for this series, lately the tabletop beside my drawingboard has become quite lethal looking!

In sufficient quantities, that COKE ZERO will kill ya!!

What is that 1950's reference book you have there, JB?  Are there similar books for other decades to your knowledge?

••

It's 1950s from Konneman publishers. I have equivalent volumes for the 20s, 30s, 40s and 60s.

The "stripes" are the grip for pulling back the slide to fire.

Thanks. On the toy P38 nothing of these were real parts except the onoffbutton for the sound circuits to be turned on and the trigger that made the sound. So I never knew how a real gun would work.

I don't know whether it's intended but this guy has quite the world weary look, like he's seen a lot of unpleasantness.

••

It's intended. I told Chris Ryall I wanted Swann to look as if he'd been 'round the block a few times.

MORE than a few times.

Can anyone name any other "espionage" books other than Mike Grell's Jon Sable stuff? That is the only other book that I can think of to this rather limited genre in comic books. The Bond similarities aside, I am very curious to see where these books take us since it is a sharp departure from costumed super heroes, but obviously something JB is passionate about.

Paul Gulacy did the art for  Time-Bomb , which was amazing.

He has also done a Bond story as well as the classic MOKF.

Didn't Grell actually DO a James Bond book? I seem to recall his Bond being VERY Hoagy Carmichael.

Anyway, here's a peek at the B cover for 3. . .

Yep, Grell did some Bond books for Eclipse back in 1989 -- an adaptation of License to Kill and an original mini called Permission to Die.
