Here's a peek at the layouts for a page, still minus Our Man Swann.*
Mostly so that I could get started on it whilst still finishing up on NEXT MEN, I laid out the whole first issue before starting inks. This is something I have not done before, and is proving an interesting experiment in terms of how quickly the pages then get finished. –––––––– * Well, unless you actually count that scribble driving the truck!

Ah...I have to say I, too, prefer the rigid grid of panels (as discussed in other thread). Very pleasing to the eye.

Man, it amazes me when I see an artist lay a page out like this. Everything's there, emotion, character career, tension, with just a few lines. To have that kind of talent, man oh man.

I have one of those radios (walkie talkies), love seeing them used in your book. It's always the small things...

I think it is quite a testament to your professionalism that you continue to pursue new process in your work. An artist is always looking for perfection. The Japanese have a word for the pursuit of perfection; Shibumi. There is a book by Trevanian called Shibumi that chronicles a Go playing assassin named Nicolai Hel that comes out of retirement for revenge. And to come full circle on this idea; the character is from the cold war era.
And that is my strange association for the day. Enjoy.

Very excited as well - this will be the first comic I have bought new since the 80's.
JB - I'm curious if your technique for illustrating fight scenes differs vastly dealing with non super powered characters?

Ah...I have to say I, too, prefer the rigid grid of panels (as discussed in other thread). Very pleasing to the eye.•• I gave some thought, early on, to restricting myself to the 6/9 panel grid, but "restricting" turned out to be the operative word! ++++ Man, it amazes me when I see an artist lay a page out like this. Everything's there, emotion, character career, tension, with just a few lines. To have that kind of talent, man oh man. •• And then I look at Joe Kubert doing a page like this, and using maybe, oh, eight lines --- and I want to go open a vein!
