I wonder if Mr. Swann will have a single, recurring love interest or if (like the Bond films) there will be a new lady in each story arc. Then again, maybe he'll be too busy just trying to stay alive to think of romance!

JB, have you ever played with the idea of Mr. Swann meeting up with characters from your other books, like Dr. Jorgenson?

If there's one thing James Bond has taught me, it's that you can never be too busy for romance!

The Cad!
---
Reading that immediately brought the word "bounder" to mind. I think it's because when I first heard the two terms they were being used together. I may have been watching an episode of The Three Stooges at the time.

One of the things I knew I would have to have in every story was some kind of romantic interest -- A "Swann Girl" if you will. I also knew that, like other "secret agents" of fiction, I did not want my man to have the same "girl" carrying over from one storyline to the next. (There IS a female character who fulfills that role, but more in a "friends with benefits" kind of way.)

This presented me with a bit of a problem, since Bond books would come out once a year, for instance, but my guy will be appearing in two or three stories in the same amount of time. Cad indeed!

But then I remembered one of the real advantages of stories set in another time, Past or Future -- they don't have to happen on the same schedule as their publication. Two or three stories in one year can, for Swann, represent two or three years, or more. In fact, I expect there will be a number of "untold tales" referenced, to indicate a passing of time.

So, less of a cad!

Is this going to be a more "adult" book, JB?

JB, I knew you could write superhero and science fiction fare: didn't know you could write secret agent stuff. Looking forward to it.

That's the kind of book that I expected to see when JB said he would be doing more of his own stuff at IDW! Something that he never did before and looks extremely cool!

Really looking forward to it.
