After the horses are stolen, tortured, mutilated, sold for cat food -- oh, and the barn has been burned down!

(Last time I was working at DC I pitched a one-shot parody issue, as a comment on the relentless darkening of all the characters: teenaged SUGAR AND SPIKE - VAMPIRE HUNTERS! I was told such a thing would "damage" the characters!!!!) ************************************ I know why, too. Paul Levitz is a HUGE Sheldon Mayer fan and he holds Mayer's creations in high regard. However, NOW you could probably get the ok for that one-shot. Just make the vamps sparkly.

Being more of a Marvel kid growing up and not buying any DC comics until JB took over Superman, I'm not as invested in the DCU and don't have a problem if they "fix" some things (like the Dibny's and I'd like the Ditko Creeper back not a demon). If I didn't hate what Identity Crisis did to the DC Universe, I doubt I'd care one way or the other about a reboot. I put fix in quotes because I'm sure that there are people who love Identity Crisis and think that all the stuff that it lead to made DC comics better.

Unfortunately Brad Meltzer is somebody that Marvel really wants to work for them as well.

I know I've said it before, but it truly is astonishing to look at the modern comicbook industry, and come away with the inescapable conclusion that everything is being run by those creepy guys we used to see -- and mock! -- at conventions in days of yore. The ones with the sketchbooks full of naked pictures of superheroines.I recall once strolling by a clutch of people who were surrounding a British writer (sorry, don't recall which one) who was being verbally assaulted by an irate fan who was demanding to know why said writer could use all kinds of cuss words in his comicbook work but could not say... well, let's use "the C-Word". Today, I get a picture of editors at Marvel and DC demanding of their writers why they haven't used "the C-Word".* ---- * Here's a crazy idea! Let's not follow this post with all kinds of terribly witty speculations on what "the C-Word" might be!

If this is all an elaborate event to bring back Ralph and Sue Dibny (and whoever else was killed off/maimed needlessly by Geoff Johns and the rest later), I'm down with it.

Stanley grew up into a serial murderer and child molester and his monster was a demon from hell who had renounced evil and he was using it to kill people
And yet Kevin Smith continues to get work from DC. I'm mystified.

And yet Kevin Smith continues to get work from DC. I'm mystified. ------------------------------------------------------------ --------------------------------- I read an interview not long ago where Kevin Smith complained about the fan's supposedly not liking his Batman stories but he said that his take is very popular because the collected edition (Cacaphony?) made the NY Times best seller list. I know that the man has his fans but I have never had a conversation with any comic book fan that loves his work. Guys like Didio and Quesada laud him and I guess if he made that list someone bought those books but I don't know any comic fan that is not already a Kevin Smith fan that holds his work in high regard.

Karen Page turning to porn and prostitution to support a smack habit and then getting HIV and being killed off in a church, Mysterio commiting suicide...what a mess Kevin Smith leaves.
Then he brings back Green Arrow as a light hearted pre Mike Grell version (which I loved) only to crap on Stanley and his Monster in the process (uggh!) and then hand Green Arrow off to Metzler who promptly made a him a gruff angry killer again and then started the whole GA is a cooch sniffing horn dog thing.
Meanwhile Devin Grayson was having Nightwing raped by a female vigilante after having all of his friends killed off by Blockbuster and failing to stop her from killing the villain. Devin also "helpfully" describes Nightwing as a psychologically vulnerable hyper sensualist driven sexually mad by the sensation of a touch in a moment of high tension as though she was writing a trashy romance novel instead of a comic book.
Yep.
I expect Marvel to drop a hint that the super soldier serum gave Steve Rogers two willies any day now. Maybe they'll use the phrase 'double barreled'.
Then we'll see Peter Parker dating a kinky girl who wants Spider-Man to tie her up with webbing.
Or someone will imply that Killer Frost is going down on an immobilized Firestorm and his 'fire hair' will suddenly flare up.
Current comic book writers are not only willing to 'go there', they practically 'LIVE THERE'.
