I think that DC would like to just come out and tell their new stories.Between the internet prognosticating, fans that are consumed by continuity and "what counts", and a fear of losing fans that liked the old directions, it seems that they feel the HAVE to explain what works in continuity and what doesn't.

I think what DC should have done was do an digital-exclusive line of comics with an all-ages approach. That would have been a sure success for them. After all, Bruce Timm's cartoons have been popular with adults and children for years. It would have been easy to have translated that success on T.V. to the Web.

yeah, it's almost as if they've had that gift horse staring them in the face all
along. Batman: TAS, Superman, Justice League. All that stuff has been so
successful with an all ages approach, yet they continue to chase that
Watchmen/Dark Knight vibe and the need to turn all comics into books for
"mature" readers.

idiots!

My friend made a comment after seeing the latest picture of Jim Lee's "Justice League":

Justice League picture.

"Wow. Total Justice. Wonder if they'll come with snap-on armor and weapons."

Why in the world did they decide to leave Martin Manhunter out of the JLA and keep all the other members the same?

Pixar has done an amazing job of capturing a broad audience with all-ages
material. Seems there's a lesson to be learned.

The Justice League picture is a perfect example why a single artist should not design an entire line's costumes - they all have some basic principles. It looks like production factory costuming - body armour, collars, overly designed boots.

Are any of those designs better than what we had before?

I am seriously becoming a grouch about these things.

I just don't get what DC are doing here - either start from scratch (And if Superman is that young, you're starting from scratch) or keep history. Don't mix and match and say anything is up for interpretation except Alan Moore and Geoff Johns work.

Line wide reboot means line wide reboot. but that means you need a reason - what do you want the other side? More of the same style of stories or more accessible stories? And if so, accessible by whom? Becuase that really comes down to content. You can dress this up as much as you want, but if the content is more of what was before, it's just window dressing and in a few months it's back to square one.

It's the Newsstand to Direct Market switchover version 2.0.

There are so few customers for each title that a lot of books are barely at break-even, and some probably below. With the new Digital releases, some print runs will go below break-even (relying on digital to stay afloat) and some titles might go all-digital.

Meanwhile, comics shop will see their sales of monthly issues decimated and be forced to rely more on just graphic novel / collections sales. The monthly market is at risk of drying up.

It is a distinct possibility that within a year or two, they'll either be pushing the monthlies out as digital releases only, the comics only ever seeing print in collected editions, or they'll have to limit digital comics again.

No way I'm paying $2.99 for a digital comic, though.

I pay less than that now for a paper comic. It works out to $2.51 after discount and tax for me to buy a $2.99 comic. Then, as I've done with the overwhelming majority of my collection, I can also decide to trade that comic in and recoup some (or all!) of the cost as trade value toward something else. Statues, figures, other comics... Can't do that with a digital comic.

$.99 cents? I'd be in for at least a dozen comics in September. $2.99 down to $1.99 after four weeks? That's a big ripoff as far as I'm concerned.

A few week after the anouncement:

I'm sure that:

-I want to read Batgirl, because it is Barbara Gordon, and because i like Gail Simone.

I'm still interested in:

-The new Firestorm series, because i like the characters, because Ronnie is one of them, because Gail is co-writing, because Yildirai Cinar is an artist i like a lot, and because since he is doing the cover and co-writing we may still have good art from Ethan Van Sciver and the book on time.

-Aquaman, because i like undersea stories, undersea worlds, and Geoff Johns, because the artist seems decent. But i fear dismembrement, beheading and other horror that made me drop lot of Geoff Johns books in the past.

-Batman, Detective Comics, Batman and Robin.

-Nightwing, maybe

-Catwoman, maybe

-Blackhawks, maybe

-Action Comics, because i like Grant Morrison and the artist looks fine.

-JLA, maybe, because the team seems fine, and i like both Geof Johns and Jim Lee.

Has anyone else seen what they are doing with Harley Quinn for Suicide Squad relaunch?

Blech!  What kind of manga "girl with the dragon tattoo" silliness are they doing here?!?

I'm in for Action, Animal Man and Suicide Squad. That will more than double the number of DC comics I'm buying every month, so I guess the gimmick has worked on me. I would have tried a new Animal Man or Suicide Squad series regardless of any reboot, though.
