The request as Jim Warden sent it to me:

11" x 17" commission, with background; the idea is that this is a cover to an imaginary Invaders comic. The characters are: -- Dr. Doom (smooth cloak ala FF # 236

-- Captain America (as he appeared in your Cap run)

-- Namor (as he usually appeared in the Invaders; green trunks)

-- Original Human Torch (as he usually appeared in the Invaders, hopefully aflame)

-- Gypsy female (that Doom is trying to save; perhaps a woman like Kristoff's mother in FF #247)

-- Invaders title/logo and corner box The commissioner's idea is that Dr. Doom has transported himself to Nazi-occupied Latveria circa World War II; he is trying to save a gypsy woman from the Nazi's.   Here he encounters The Invaders, who are fighting to liberate Latveria from Nazi tyranny...

Uhhh... WOW!

I think you covered all of the bases on this one. And threw in a couple of extras.

Wow! What a cover! I'd buy that in a second. I want to read that story.

Man, that is just magnificent. Nice wrinkle from the commissioner not having the heroes just throwing down on Doom.

And you just KNOW that the Red Skull's somewhere behind those walls...

Yes -- I was somewhat surprised that such a detailed request DIDN'T include the Skull!

Very nice!  And I'm definitely getting a strong "George Perez vibe" from it as well.

Awesome mix of textures, chief: skin, chainmail, fire, water, flagstones, checkerplate, tech metal, regular metal, cloth and - my favourite, hands down - Byrne shiny black stuff! Bloody wonderful.

JB...do you approach the Jim Hammond Torch any differently than you approach the Johnny Storm Torch?

I love the execution of the concept. After reading what the request was, I had my own idea about what the scene would look like. I was blown away by how much better the picture was than my idea when I scrolled down! That's why JB is the professional.
