Why hasn't someone figured out how to make it so retailers don't feel like they're left holding the bag?
@ JByrne

I'm really happy to see AFTERMATH coming in any form given the comic business being what it is today.
NEXT MEN appears to be a genuine hit!

Any design sneaks yet on the NEXT MEN AFTERMASH logo ?
Gonna be a long one for Diamond: John Byrne's Next Men Aftermath
Will they list it under "J", "N" or "A".
The current book gets listing in my ComicBase software as "Next Men (John Byrne's)", I wonder if the new one will be "Next Men Aftermath (John Byrne's)", "Next Men (John Byrne's) Aftermath", or "Aftermath (John Byrne's Next Men)

Why hasn't someone figured out how to make it so retailers don't feel like they're left holding the bag?•• Again, we must go back to the REASON the DSM was created in the first place: precisely so that retailers/dealers WOULD be "left holding the bag" -- the "bag" being a steady supply of issues that would maintain their back issue stock. Because -- one more time --THE DIRECT SALES MARKET WAS NOT CREATED TO BE THE PRIMARY VENUE. It was created as an "aftermarket". So now, again, it has been twisted, warped, morphed and basically perverted into something it was never meant to be -- AND IT DOESN'T WORK THAT WAY.

I don't mind, I wanted it to be called Next Men : Aftermath ever since I heard about the sequel. It makes sense. Those who bought Next Men will continue to buy it. It would be horrible if it had little to do with the Next Men series. But it's not the case, right?

It would be horrible if it had little to do with the Next Men series. But it's not the case, right?•• It spins right out of the "last" issue of NEXT MEN, and features several familiar characters. It also takes a very, very, very different direction!!!

What I have learned about stupid people behavior -- like the issue #1 retailer ordering pattern -- is that it becomes predictable and therefore subject to adroit manipulation: an ace up a sleeve. This is a case in point. And I have no problem with Next Men continuing its numbering run. JB is young enough to at least break Kirby's run on FF. Less than 6 years to go!

It's a double edged sword. It's nice that Next Men is doing well enough that IDW thinks by keeping the name attached it will keep the sales steady. But it is a shame that the industry has a hard time supporting a "new" title. Maybe Aftermath will do well enough that you can drop the Next Men portion after a healthy run.

Great News! ....and yes, comics as we knew them are doomed. Screw it. If you keep making them then I'll keep buying them.

We've come full circle to the time when #1's were avoided by publishers.

Comics may be doomed but it's looking very bright for the Next Men and its fans :-) I'm hoping this will eventually mean a third black and white phonebook!
