A family friend sent me a photo tour of Dad's suite at the Home, to see if there were any items I wanted shipped down here. What an odd experience. I have been there several times since Dad moved, but never looking at it with quite those eyes. Odd how very little there was that I wanted. Lots of memories, but not much nostalgia. It probably has a lot to do with all the times we moved when I was a kid. As I have mentioned, I didn't have two birthdays in the same house until I was 16, and not long after I moved out on my own. So, unlike many of you I expect, I don't have a "home base" in my memories. There's no geographical location to attach to so many of these objects that were precious to Dad, and so they have very little meaning to me. Fortunately, they are very precious indeed to his collection of friends up in Calgary, so they will find good homes. One the subject of which -- Dad put on "movie nights" twice a week at the Home, from the large DVD collection he'd accumulated (many of which I bought for him). The collection is being donated to the Home, and I found out today they are going to officially name their media room the Frank Byrne Theater. Gotta know he woulda loved that!!
