JB, was your father's title something he took very seriously or did he have a more easy-going approach to it? I've read where Lawrence Oliver didn't like being called "Sir Lawrence" and preferred people to call him "Larry".

••

Altho he was always tickled to be introduced as "Lord Rushton", he was quick to say "Call me Frank".

Is it always "Your Lordship" or is it sometimes "His Lordship"? (As in, "which of His Lordship's issues of Fantastic Four features your favorite inking?"

Does the "His" and "your" agree in that sentence?)Then, sometimes I've read it's simply "My Lord" or "M'Lord".

Can Americans get some instruction here?

••

"His Lordship" when referring to a Lord, "Your Lordship" when speaking to him (tho only the first time in a conversation. Subsequently, "sir" is sufficient.)

Contrary to the impression you may have gotten from reading some comicbook stories, "My Lord" or "M'Lord" is to be used only when the individual addressed IS your Lord. Since my father's (and now my) title was what is known as a "noncorporeal hereditament" -- meaning no lands or chattles attached -- no one would ever properly address him (or me) as "My Lord".

JB,

So with no heirs, does the title go back to the Crown after you head out to the Comic Bullpen in the sky?

The information is very interesting, I appreciate you sharing with us.  Thanks.
