WE ARE THE MARTIANS, a hefty collection of essays and interviews celebrating the life and work of Nigel Kneale, considered by many to be the "godfather" of British horror/scifi television. (He authored my perennial favorite, QUATERMASS AND THE PIT.)A disappointment, so far. I have read three of the essays at random, and they suffer very much from the I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, Nigel Kneale, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I approach.

Continuing to read a mystery writer that I discovered a few months back. This is the third book in his John Cardinal mystery series set in Ontario, Canada. The previous two novels were excellent and it was easy to see how the author has racked up a bunch of award nominations in the mystery fiction realm.

Got this and the first book in this trilogy, The Cellar, is disturbing the hell out of me. Truly horrific.

Now diving into another older (1994) book by the late great Carl Sagan. Hard to believe he has been gone for more than twenty years now.

I am reading Doubt: A History by Jennifer Hecht. It's been a good historical exploration of how having rational skepticism about religion, while certainly less common back in ages past, isn't a remotely new phenomenon.

BIGGLES - THE CAMELS ARE COMING (1932)I’ve been aware of the fictional adventures of Squadron Leader James Bigglesworth, by Captain W. E. Johns, for almost as long as I can remember. This, however, is my first sojourn into reading one. So far only the introduction, but if it sets the tone for what follows this could be a fun ride. The Camels of the title, btw, are Sopwith Camels, the (rightly) famous single-seater fighter planes of WW1–coincidentally the first aircraft I knew by name, when I was six. (I only hope I can push from my mind the MONTY PYTHON Biggles skit!)
