Hey Richard, why not suggest a book as well , as a sort of "retro-swap" ?

Intriguing ... all right, as non-Doom
Patroller, I'll give it
a try. Mr. McKay (or anyone else), do you read Tom
Strong? If not ... issue 30 just hit the stands a week
or two ago. If someone buys and reads that, I'll pick
up DP7 this weekend!

Jason

Even though Todd already beat me to it, I'll still pick
up Tom
Strong #30 tomorrow.

I know that still doesn't fulfill the terms the Joe set at
the
beginning of this thread though, so I am still open to
the swap:
anyone that has a comic they'd like me to purchase
and read,
in exchange for purchasing DP#7, let me know.

Mark you have to work less hard and visit here more
often
;).  You can take Tom Strong, since he aimed the
post at
you.  I will resist the urge to work, and wait around
here to
pick-up some other book.  (But if Tom Strrong looks
good I will
get it anyway. Then We can email Jason and tell him
he has to buy DP 8
as well.)

Jeez, how much money is this going to end up
costing me? :)

I like the idea of people posting the reviews here ...
although I would request that Todd and Mark give
Spoiler warnings on TS30 ... I'm a little behind on my
comics reading and haven't picked that one up yet!
(Though issue 29 is awesome, and it's part 1 of 2,
so I still feel confident recommending ish 30.)

Anyway, next time I'm at the store, I'll pick up TS30
and DP7 and read 'em both, then be right back here
for discussion/reviews.

Looking forward to this -- it should be fun!

Jason

I checked out Tom Strong online, and it looks like 30 is the sceond of two parts.  So I will get both, and judge the whole story.

i like the idea though, a superpowerful man of science.  Hmm...I am a man of science, now all I need are superpowers.  Anyone know where I can get some of those.

Just read 5 and 6, not impressed. I don't feel empathy with the characters and JB's art, while still better than most of what's out there, just felt off (particularly Rita's enlarged hand). However my nine year-old loved it, so I'll continue buying it for him!

It is good to know that your 9 year  old likes the book.  I have a 10ish yo family friend who I am comtemplating sharing the series with.  Sounds like it will be OK.  It is done then.

I was underwhelmed by 5 and 6, but really enjoyed the other issues.  7 was fine, and I am hopeful that 8 will be great.  (hey if you read that out loud, it rhymes!)

I saw this on the DCMBs, so the cross promotion is working.

I submit Manhunter by DC Comics. The book is young so #1 should be easy enough to find, my personal favorite issue is #3, although pretty much every issue has a stand alone aspect to it. #5 just came out the other week. If someone will try out an issue of Manhunter, I'll try the most stand alone self contained issue of Doom Patrol there is, just tell me which one.

Also, I'll agree to try Blood of the Demon #1, if someone reads Aquaman #25. Although since BotD won't be out for a couple more months, I'll understand if someone wants to postpone this. I suggest #25 simply because I know it to be a standalone issue.

You're on! I will try an issue of Manhunter (1 or 3) if you will in
turn try an issue of Doom Patrol.

As for the most stand-alone issue of Doom Patrol, most of the
stories are two-parters, but I would think if you picked up Doom
Patrol #6, which is part 2 of a story, you should have no
problem figuring out what is going on, and it will end with a
conclusion rather than a cliffhanger. All of the issues really do
tell you what you need to know to understand what's going on.

Doom Patrol #7 is also a great issue, with a lot of action and
characterization, and is the current issue.

Thanks,
-Mark

NOTE to Todd Hembrough: I will take this one and you
can go ahead and read Tom Strong for purposes of the "swap".

Aquaman #25, John Arcudi's first issue as writer, wasn't bad at all. A bit downbeat, but an interesting first story.

Sounds like a plan. I'll pick up either Doom Patrol #6 or 7 today when I go to the shop. I'll post a review of it here when I get the chance.

I just saw this thread and it looks like a swell idea.  I'll be willing to pick up something new if someone else picks up the latest Doom Patrol.

This is for Peter Hicks. I went to my LCS today and had them back order me a copy of WE3 #1 and 2. Both are in stock and I should have them in a week or two. I keep you posted as soon as I get them.

Both issues!  Wow.  I guess that obligates me to read DP 7 and DP 8.
